Re the following major Public Hospitals can people please suggest their experiences or knowledge about which ones they may consider good and maybe not so good and of course why?
Auckland City
Middlemore
Waitakere
North Shore
Starship Childrens (part of Auckland city)
Also very interested to hear about any recommendations for any doctors practices in the Howick vicinity?

I am happy with my docs, part of the Eastcare group, we are with Reeves Road, but there are several other practices linked with the group. http://www.eastcare.co.nz/ I have friends that use the Howick Clinic on Ridge road, and they are both happy there (apparently there is a bit of a hunky doc there too!)
Personal experience of Auckland City, but just the maternity floor (national womens), seemed very clean, friendly staff(mostly, but you get grumps everywhere!). I have friends that work at Middlemore, and not really heard them say anything bad, although again only really the maternity side, and they (like most hospitals) are a bit short of midwives.
Mercifully I have had no experience of Starship (and long may that continue!)

Hi, never used the hospitals so can't comment. (BTW, do you mean what are they like to use or to work in?)
We go to Howick House Surgery in Moore Street, Howick and find them fantastic,

Like Gil says, I'm not sure what you're asking, but ACH is a clean, modern, well equipped and well organised hospital. Both patients and staff treated well. Streets ahead of the NHS. Had cause to visit Waitakere Emergency dept once and was pleasantly surprised by how nice the building was and the staff were brilliant.

We had to visit Starship a couple of times this winter (my son broke his arm), and we had good experiences there. Apart from the last time, when we had to wait for 5 hours....

Thanks for replies
Really asking as a patient.
We are thinking about moving to Howick/Mellons Bay/ Buckland Beach area and like to know about doctors and hospitals in that area.
But thought it best to ask a general question so the thread is useful for anyone in the Auckland area.
Our family on North Shore and our info is as follows:-
Doctors at Apollo medical centre (corner of apollo drive and rosedale).
A medical centre with about 15 to 20 doctors + many connected services such as medlab diagnostic, x rays, dentistry, skin scanning etc..
Very efficient and doctors reasonably ok although variable and the unit seems rather business orientated. Fees quite high- even kids from 0 to 6 cost $15. $20 for repeat prescription without seeing doctor and doctor appointment between about $40 to $75.
North Shore hospital is good and Free Parking!
Auckland City hospital also seems good but parking expensive and sometimes no space!

you dont have to go to a doctors surgery in your immediate area if you dont want to (they arent zoned) so if you arent happy with any in your area when you move, you can go somewhere else..my dr's that im signed up with down the road are very close but im not very happy with them so im looking at other options..
