Hi there, im looking for any information on my situation.

I am currently in new zealand, as an america on the three-month visa free period.

A situation has arison and i need to stay longer then that.

I have about two months left until i would need to go.

I do however have a partner (Native New Zealander) willing to sponsor me, but i am unsure as to how that changes the situation.

Ive read that i may need a police check and a health check, however two months seems like too little time to get that done.

Is it too late for me to get a longer stay? Should i be booking my plane ticket?

Any help, and any suggestion, would be greatly appreciated.

You can apply to extend your visitor permit, info on this can be found here (http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/alreadyinnz/visitors/questionsandanswers/stayinglongerasavisitor/caniapplyforafurthervisitorspermit.htm), but basically you can apply to stay up to 9 months, and sometimes even a year, but after that you have to leave NZ for a minimum of a year before you can get another visitor's permit.

In order to qualify for permanent residency on the basis of your relationship, you have to have lived with your partner for at least 12 months.

Yes to what Jo Jo says; also, if you have been in the relationship for less than one year, you can apply for a 12 month work permit:

I suggest you contact Immigration to find out exactly what your options are. You can email them here:
