Having a confused moments again:(
If you have PR, can you buy one way tickets to NZ. Air NZ says that you need a RRV.
Gone round in circles on NZIS but can't find the right bit. :wah
Stupid question time :o - but if you need an RRV in addition to PR do you apply separately or at same time?
I know IRRV you apply 2 yrs after PR but what about the others?
thanks for any help

Hi Mels,
My understanding is that if you have PR then you automatically get a 2 year RRV in your passport, then after the 2 years is up you can apply for a IRRV and assuming you meet the critera eg you have been in the country for the appropriate number of days, then you get the IRRV.
Hope this helps

You don't need an RRV for a one way ticket, if Air NZ said this then they are wrong.
If you have any visa that is for 12 months or more then you only need a one way ticket as it's not possible to get a return ticket for more than 12 months.
For example, we had a WTR for 30 months so only needed a one way ticket.
When you look at your blue sticker it should say "outward passage waived" if you don't need the return ticket.
As Hels said, when you are awarded PR then it is actually a 2 year RRV that they put in your passport.

Just out of curiosity, did your visa state "outward passage waived".
If not were you told you didn't need a return ticket or did you just buy one-way tickets and didn't have a problem?
AFAIK, official policy is that it must be 12 months, but some times they don't bother checking.
Trying to determine, apart from the details previously posted, how a forum member would know for sure that they don't need a return ticket as clearly Air NZ don't give the correct advice all the time?

Hi
Yes our visa did have "outward passage waived" on it. We booked our tickets through travelmood and they rang to confirm we had the correct visa for one way tickets. Once I told them we had a 9 month work visa they were fine.
I agree it is difficult especially when Air NZ are not giving out the correct info.

we flew out on PR one way with Air nz no problem, once you get here you get a returning residents visa stamped in your passport,
(also try booking through a travel agent we did and it was a lot cheaper than the air nz price they quoted when i phoned them and there was no questions)
