NZ Citizenship:

I just got off the line with Terry Murphy, my friendly neighbourhood NZIS marketing director here in Portland, and he stated that the 3 year vs. 5 year citizenship law only affects EOIs selected after the 31st of January (or when the bill actually passes). For example, since my EOI was selected 11 Nov 04, I will be grandfathered in to the 3 year requirement as the immigration process has been started. Good news as you don't have to actually be physically in NZ for your citizenship requirement to only be 3 years; you just have to be Selected or greater.

US ITA stuff:

If you are in the US, your paperwork/case officer is still handled by London, but you can arrange for your interview to be conducted by one of the local marketing directors. Also, Terry stated that you may/may not have to do the X-ray portion of the med as most people in the US don't have TB and are screened for it when they are young.

Hi,

I'd be interested to know other peoples opinions on this. I've just had a look at the bill itself and it is very explicit that you have to be there for 5 years:

"(b) that the applicant was present in New Zealand---

"(i) for a minimum of 1 350 days during the 5 years immediately preceding
the date of the application; and

"(ii) for at least 240 days in each of those 5 years,---
being days during which the applicant was entitled in terms of the
Immigration Act 1987 to be in New Zealand indefinitely:

It would be great if it was 3 years so I hope someone can clarify this.

Mark. :P

As I understand it the BIll hasn't been passed yet so doesn't take effect until then. So at the moment its still 3 years. As to when its triggered, I haven't a clue.
