Hi there, i have been trying to ascertain for my OH the situation regards the availability of gents barbers. My OH is an apprenticed trained fully qualified barber, including wet shaves etc... (amongst other superb skills that she has aquired).

She would like to know what the current situation is regards, are there barbers shops( Not hairdressers), do mobile barbers exist etc..

How much is the cost of a gents, childrens trim etc.. most busy days etc..

Her idea is to work, to meet people, make friends, earn some money, in between the kids schooling hours.

I have tried to answer these questions but have drawn a little bit of a blank. ( don't have as many skills as OH obviously).

Last point , we are looking at wellington area to live in , as its a toss up between Auck or Wellie. ( wellie option no 1).

Any info would greatly appreciated.

Clare normally runs the clippers over my balding pate:laugh but have noticed here in Christchurch adverts for "buzz cuts" 5 to 10 dollars so guessing thats the cheaper end of the market for wont of a better phrase.
The Yellow pages has about 30 men's hairdressers listed and the Barbers listing takes you to hairdressing!1
Not sure about "wet shaves" as loads of folks down these parts sport very large beards:D

Seen plenty of 'real' barbers around the Nelson area. OH paid $19 for a cut last week but that wasn't a proper barbers, it was one of those walk in off the street places. Paid $16 for a child's cut a few weeks ago in a similar type place (that I'll never take her back to!).

I seen several barbers ( and visited my local one ) in the Lower Hutt and Wellington Areas..

I paid $17 at a barbers in Johnsonville at lunchtime today.

I have also paid $25 at the barbers in Thorndon.

You can guess the more exclusive suburb!
