Panel doc called to say medicals were ready and everything was fine in them both. When we picked them up OH's said that the chest x-ray showed he has 'mild cardiomelagy' which in layman's terms is a enlarged heart.

Looked this up on the internet and it says it is not a disease or condition itself but can be the indication of an underlying problem - doesn't sound fine to us!!

It also, however said that it is a common condition in athletes. My OH is a tee-total, non-smoking triathlete who trains daily.

Hubby is trying to get a doctors appointment in the next couple of days to get some advice but it's impossible getting an appointment at our surgery and we are off to NZ for a scouting trip on Saturday. It's horrible going with this hanging over us. I've got visions of us being turned down because my husband is TOO fit!!

Any docs out there? Anyone come across this or know it to be a problem with immigration? Not looking for diagnosis as I know over a blog that would be unethical but any advice to make our trip more worry free would be greatly appreciated.

It amazes me that on the very long and comprehensive medical declaration there is nowhere to enter information on either your eating habits or exercise regime! Not having gone for the medicals myself yet I am hoping that the panel doctor has the insight to consider these important!

I am sure that sanity will prevail, and it is just that they do like to check any abnormality. Medicine seems to be all about what the norm is, and patients outside of this earn terminology suggesting that there is something wrong, not something different!

Still, your OH's great VO2max, low resting heart rate and avoidance of poisons to his body are unlikely to scare NZIS. I am sure it was just a note on his xray decribing an observation rather than indicating a problem, but that will be for the doctors on this forum to comment on.

It's also very natural for you to fear hiccups at every opportunity. The good and bad news is EVERYONE has some hiccups, if not medical, then qualifications, or character assesment, or age, or missing documents etc etc etc.

Thanks Ourquest

All I can do is cross my fingers and try not to worry about it. We travel this afternoon but OH is seeing the GP this morning to at least start the ball rolling re tests.
