Hi there.

We were delighted to obtain our PR visas with stamps a few months ago. The day after receiving this thrilling news we put our house and business on the market. So far, things have been really really really slow. We have dropped our asking price several times, gone multiple agency, declutered our house big time and yet had no luck in attracting the one buyer who will allow us to move on to NZ. Although we still have a few months to go before our visas expire, I was wondering if anyone else had been in a similar situation and considering the option of getting one's visa extended. Does NZIS in London grant extensions or does it mean reapplying from scratch all over again? (yikes!)

We do not want to rent out our house, neither do we wish to move before selling as we need the proceeds of the sale to finance our move.

Thanks

Can you come over on a holiday and activate them ? Costly but not as costly as going for PR again :)

Difficult situation to be in when dependant on house sales, not sure what NZIS would say, you could broach them and ask them what they would say as well.

This answer isn't based on facts but on principles. NZIS provide a year to arrive after PR has been issued. They like you to arrive because it demonstrates intent on the part of the applicant; after all, NZIS have spent a lot of effort in making sure you are a suitable applicant. If I was in their position I would begin to doubt that you will contribute when in NZ (I am not making a judgment so much as giving you feedback on perception) if in the space of 12 months (and in reality about 24 months if you consider the whole process) you haven't been able to make provision to at least arrive, if not settle there and then. But it isn't for us to judge, that lies with NZIS to do and with understanding of your property situation I do in fact hope they extend it for you. But after all your effort with obtaining PR, realise now that in another 6 months you may still not have sold your house...so put another financial plan into place now before it is too late.
