Hi all,

Just wondering whether anyone else out there is starting to get itchy about when their invitation to apply might ever arrive? We were selected out of the pool on August 4.

We've got police forms quicker than I expected and we're just about to arrange those medicals (but at going on £500 - London prices I expect - it's not money we can afford to waste). So how long d'you reckon we ought to leave it before getting panicky?

I was looking at that other site, uk2nz, and there was a post there saying you could ring the part of NZIS processing the UK-based applicants (01344 716199) and hassle them a bit. Anyone tried that??

Really hoping to get out there asap in 2005, no tickets booked yet so not too pressured. Mind you, terribly envious of all you guys already packing your suitcases.

Hi - yep, we are the same having also been selected on 8/4.

I just rang the number you noted in your post - thanks for that - quickest I have ever got through to a human!!

Will be "at least another 8-10 weeks" (we leave in under 2 weeks) before the main application pack is despatched, I was advised.

If you are leaving the UK within this time frame I was given a fax number to send through address changes... 0207 973 0370.

Also advised that, if your medicals run out (i.e. they are valid for 3 months and we had ours done 23/August) they can be "re-signed" by the panel doctor who originally did the tests. Advised to speak to the Doc before we leave the UK to verify that he is willing to do this. Might also be worth asking how much they want to re-sign - can't believe they'll do it for nowt!

Cheers

in response to last posting from Moorf

We've been thrown into a panic this evening. (hence lots of postings on noticeboards to try and get some solutions or comfort!)

We hope to be selected from the pool in the next dip on 15 sept. Perhaps foolishly I booked our tickets for the whole family to fly out on Jnaury 11th. It now looks as if we might not be granted PR until after that date.

The previous writer (Moorf) seems to indicate that they will go out on visitors visa and wait for permanent residency application to be completed once there. This is exactly what we have been recommended to do.

Am i being very conservative or is this all rather risky.

Please let me know as I can't sleep for worrying.

(hopefully in 4 months we'll wake up in the middle of a NZ summer :cool )

Hiya - it's perfectly okay to complete application over there - indeed you may enter on visitors visa and apply for work visa there if you wish if you find a job... I posted about this on the other thread :D

It is exactly what we are doing.

Ok, just to let you know I have also just rung that NZIS number and got through to another human! It took three goes, and a lot of recorded message nonsense before they eventually connected me, but at least they're there.

Aforementioned human said that for EOIs selected out of the pool on 4 August they are currently expecting 10-12 weeks from selection to sending out the invitation to apply. Since it's already been 6 weeks, that makes "only" another 6 weeks.

Well, I ended up answering my own question there...!! Duh!

Charlie, do you have a job offer included on your EOI? I think the timeframe for those selected without jobs is going to be considerably longer as I have heard that they will process all those with job offers first and you have to have an interview with NZIS. At present nobody knows how long this will take as up til now it was not possible to be selected without having a job offer in the first instance.

We handed our application for residence 24/06/04 into the Christchurch office, and still have not heard anything. Ive been in contact with them twice within a fortnight and they still cannot tell me how long it's going to be. We also live and work in NZ and have a job on the shortage list.

Also I have had another shock :eek , something I,ve missed out altogether and thats the migration levy once you application has been approved. Its $300 per passport but no more than $940.

Just something you forget about when you wrapped up in all this paperwork and fees after fees.
Cheers

Hi Goldwheels

I handed in my application for residence to the CHCH branch on 31 Aug.

I was sent an acknowledgement letter stating that they will take about 3 months before they make a decision.

In case you havent done this, I suggest that you ring your case officer, as he/she will be able to give u more definite dates.

cheers and keep your spirits up

Abdul
