Hello,
Did anyone have fixed braces from an orthodontist recently?
If so approx how much did i cost? I know cost can vary from dentist to dentist but any experiences will definitely give an idea.
Also any good orthodontists/dentists in Wellington area?

Happy to recommend him.
Can't really help you on price though as my son had already got braces when we arrived in NZ, Matt just took over adjusting them etc.

Thanks a lot for the recommendation.
What do they charge if you already have the braces, when you arrive in New Zealand?
As i understand, once you have them, they have to be tightened and adjusted for 1-3 years depending upon the severity of the problem.
Is it on visit basis? Or there is a fixed fee plan and set visits after every 2-3 weeks etc.
The cost factor is important if you can shed some light please....

Hi,
My daughter arrived in NZ with fixed braces(we arrived last year). We found an orthodontist who would take over her care which wan't an easy thing. It cost $1800.00 for 8 months care with a visit every 6-8 weeks. It was a set fee for each month of care. I thought it was really expensive for the care provided.
I have a friend who's son has just had a brace fitted and it costing $6000.00 for it. But thats just a guide because it depends how much work needs doing.
Hope this helps

For our case, we went for a consultation where X-rays etc were taken so that he could assess how much work / how long the braces would need to be fitted for. He then worked out the overall cost of treatment and then set up a fixed payment plan based on these costs i.e. in our case total cost of treatment was NZ$2400 which was paid at NZ$200 per month for 12 months.
Set visits were for every 6 weeks.
Although they do primarily do tightening and adjustment, they also have to fix broken braces and provide a retainer when the braces are removed.

Just took my son and they have advised that he will need braces fitted in the next 2 years after he has had a growth spurt .
She says it will cost approx $5,700 ,she says they have a payment plan so you can spread out the cost over 18 months with no interest .
I think I would rather start saving now and pay a lump sum at first .
There is no Medical insurance to help cover this payment as it is a want not a need to have it sorted :uhoh
Joe doesn't seem that bothered about having to have braces fitted as they are quite cool these days ,the Orthadonist said he can have a different colour every time.
It was $54 for the consultation.
