Not sure whether to post this here or in the Making the Move forum...

We're planning on flying out to NZ around Easter next year, and were wondering how 'closed down' it will be on the Easter weekend given the public holidays and Easter Sunday... We'll be flying into Auckland and either hiring a car to drive down to Tauranga, or being picked up by friends in Tauranga...

Our accommodation will be arranged by our NZ employers, probably a hotel initially, so that shouldn't be a problem regardless which day we arrive, but will we find Tauranga closed down for the long weekend? We'll be itching to have a nosey round, start looking for a place to rent, maybe buy a car etc... don't want to get there and find it shut for the first two days

Need to know so we can book flights :)

Cheers.

Hi

We flew Easter Monday from UK this year and had no problems whatsoever!

Each to their own, of course, but wouldn't it be nice not to have to do anything for the first few days?

True, we'll probably want a day or two off when we get there, but we'll be on a tight schedule, starting work a week or so after arrival, so want to get as much done as possible in that week.

I also wanted to check it wasn't going to be a ghost-town when we arrive - I've been to some countries where everything shuts down on public holidays - even a lot of restaurants, which makes getting a good meal a bit tricky... I'm just getting over-excited I guess :)

Nah, you're totally allowed to be excited!
Tauranga seemed to us to be a really pleasant place, with everything you need as well (hopefully on public holidays too).
Best of luck with settling in.
