Yesterday on the way to work, my wife was hit from behind whilst stationary at a traffic light. There isnt much damage (a few dents and scratches on rear bumper which will need replacing) and both were seemingly uninjured.

I have a couple of questions I was hoping the lovely people on here might be able to help me with.

The girl driving the car behind gave my wife her details including what looks like her insurance policy number in the form DG XXXXXX where the x's are numbers.

1) Can anyone help me with which insurance company she is likely to be with. I was hoping someone recognises the DG XXXXX format without me having to ring the girl to ask.

Now, as we have only had the car a week, we have not got round to insuring it yet. (No problem as my wifes car did not hit any other car). However, question number 2

2) Does anybody know how we go about making a private insurance claim against this girls insurance company? Obvioulsy we have no insurance company of our own (yet - being sorted today:laugh :nice1 - its amazing how these things suddenly get done isnt it:laugh ) to fill out forms and make a claim for us - so I'm assuming we can do this ourselves??

All help appreciated

Thanks

I can only answer one part of your questions - DG isn't part of an insurance number - it's her driver licence number. It should have 6 numbers following the DG.
As you have her details you can contact her to get her insurance details, presuming (and hoping for your sake) that she is in fact insured...

Thanks kerry,

I didnt realise it was her drivers licence number as i'm still on a UK one for now.

Will contact her to get insurance details - she should be insured because it looked like a company vehicle (marked up etc).
