.... and we're looking for somewhere to stay in the thick of the restaurant area for one night - nothing tooooo expensive but a decent, basic hotel/motel for one night only.
Any suggestions Wellingtonians?
Cheers in advance

i would suggest lower hutt Top 10 holiday park. They have quite decent chalets and it is walking distance from Jackson str in petone, lots of pubs, restaurants, all in walking distance, and there is a bus service to WElly CBD and back to the holiday park.
Holiday park is spotlessly clean with Internet and wifi if needed.

Cheers Brian - that's great info as we're members of Top 10 Holiday Parks and use them all the time :nice1 How long would it take to get to Cuba St etc from there?

You can also get the train from Petone into Wellington Helen - it's a fair walk from the Holiday Park though.
When are you here???????????
*excited*
Cuba St is about 10 mins walk from the station - but loads of buses....

That's with the wind behind you; add another 1/2 hour if it's gusty ;)

the YHA right in town is pretty good according to my partner, who stayed there when he was came for a reccie to find somewhere for us to live. its right in town, just off cambridge terrace. 10min max walk up to cuba street and round the corner to courtenay place. you can get a double ensuite for 94 bucks...i dont think thats too bad for a room right in the middle of town. im just after staying at the chch yha and it was great...

Defo don't need to be members - we had a double bunk room for 4, just as good as a motel, v cheap - loved the massage chairs in the lounge - 2 dollars - hilarious. 2 minute walk to great restaurants.

We want to check out Chow - is that close?
Plus, while I'm asking questions.. how does this itinerary sound.... is it too rushed?
Tues: Welly - Napier
Wed: Napier - Rotorua
Fri: Rotorua - Wanganui
And what would approx travel times be?
Cheers

Chow is a 5 minute walk from the YHA - we went there twice cos we loved it so much. In fact I think we'll go again when we come through at Christmas - yay! Cool retro decor, great food, good atmosphere.
Not sure about those specific times - there's so much to do in Rotorua, we often go, and there's always something new to do.

Depends on what you mean by rushed really, but the schedule is all very easy to do.
Welly - Napier = approx 5 hours
Napier - Rotorua = approx 3-4 hours
Rotorua - Wanganui = approx 4 hours
Assuming you drive at the speed limits most of the time and doesn't take sight seeing / rest stops into account.
Have you got any plans for things to see on the way?
