Aussie Pom
29th November 2007, 01:45 PM
I read a post a few days ago from a teacher ( I think) who was unsure whether to make the move or not.
Since then I was thinking about my initial visit to Australia, it was as an exchange teacher. I went through the League of Exchange for Commonwealth Teachers (LEXT). This is definitiely a great way to go. From the UK I had no fares to pay, I felt secure because I was only leaving for a year, your job, accommodation etc all stays the same. You are paid your usual salary, which in $AU or $NZ can be a great deal, you get a huge tax rebate for being out of the UK and you have time in the new country which helps you with decisions for the future. When I went on exchange I had no intention of returning to Oz but ended up meetng my husband during the time I was here.
You do have to go back to the UK at the end of the year to fulfill the terms and conditions of the exchange but it certainly gives you an insight into the workings of the education system etc and contacts if you do wish to return later.
Something to think about!
