Is there one ? What have people done with the one in the UK ? I guess we will have to leave it here ? in that case I don't know how they will contact us really.

My brother wants to put in some money each year into a savings account for our baby - I told him it probably would be better if he waited until we were over in NZ and opened up an account there for him (the baby).

Is this the right thing ?

cheers

I'm no expert as we're just about to look into this but you can definitely open a Kiwisaver account for your children which is currently offering a $1000 incentive - good enough reason to open one in my opinion. There are also lots of kiddy savings accounts but the interest does seem low. We've kept the child trust fund we had in the UK - as long as you change the address on it they'll be able to contact you. We will probably still occasionally pay into that, or pay any money relatives give as presents into it

We have left our kids child trust funds in UK so that relatives can pay money in for birthdays and christmas rather than trying to post loads of presents. Not really planning on drawing attention to the accounts so the kids are not tempted to blow the money as sson as they turn 18.
