Probably a pipe-dream but I have heard of Polish immigrants claiming benefit for their children back home in Poland - so can you still get child benefit whilst in NZ ?

Poland is part of the EU, as is the UK. Although of course you should be claiming in the country that you are domiciled in, as long as you don't claim in both countries, you are normally okay.

Obviously doesn't work for NZ :)

I seriously hope I misunderstood this post. You didn't really mean you wanted to know if you could claim both here and in New Zealand did you? The Polish thing is happening fraudulently because there is neither the manpower nor the language ability to follow up the vast quantities of 'dual' fraudulent claims. It's precisely this mentality of abusing the system - as well as a system which is so open to abuse by people who have never contributed to it - that infuriates me. What better reason to leave the UK.

Yes you did misunderstand - I asked if you can claim child benefit whilst living in NZ.
You CAN if you are in NZ for up to 26 weeks I believe - however if you are staying longer then the answer is no.

No I did not mean to claim in BOTH countries - I do not think like that.

If you are out of the Uk for more than 8 weeks then you cannot claim CB, I think. We certainly didn't when in Sicily for 6 months. Its clearly whritten in info from Tax Office.

This is incorrect for NZ, as Dom posted above, if you are not moving permanently you are able to continue claiming child benefit for up to 26 weeks whilst in NZ (they will pay it into your UK bank account as usual).
