Today I decided to book my medical and the doctor I had planned on using is booked till the end of January :uhoh That's no good then. (Would have been £175 though)

Now the NZIS website is refusing to display the Panel Doctor list so I'm a bit stumped.

Any suggestions? I am looking at the Aussie immigration site panel list and can only see doctors in Harley Street :roll

Edited to say that i just did a quick search of the forum and came up with the Cromwell in Kensington - thanks to the folks who recommended that. Now I just need to hunt down their phone number!

Hi
I used Heathrow Medical Services on the Old Bath Road, Longford. Very quick and efficient. X rays done at the Ashford Hospital first and then onto them for the rest of the medical. Not cheap. phone number 020 85282633.
good luck

I know it’s not London but it’s very close to Gatwick Airport; £235 per person inclusive of, X-rays, blood tests and VAT.
Dr Chapman 0845 070 0733 only works Tuesdays & Thursdays, but he currently has no waiting list.
If you arrived at Gatwick airport British rail, (Gatwick Express from Victoria) or national express coach station I’m pretty sure it would be under a tenner in a taxi.
Hope that helps:nice1

I had my medicals done in Harley Street and it cost £350 for everything, including the x-ray and having the results couriered to my house. I know it's not cheap, but depending on where you are living it could work out cheaper than going out of town once you factor in travel costs (I paid £1.60 for travel using my Oyster card, which was an awful lot cheaper for me than going out of town). Plus, being Harley Street, I had no problem getting an appointment at a convenient time - I got mine for the day after I called, though that was over 6 months ago.

Edit: actually, having just read James's post properly, it would definitely have been cheaper to go to that Gatwick doctor, even with the travel costs. Ah well.

had mine done this morning at Brookdale Medical Center near Gatwick - X-rays done at Spire Povey Cross (ex-BUPA) right next door. Cost 320 including fasting blood test - done in 1.25 hrs including the X-rays

Dr. Tennant does lots of pilot healthchecks

interesting figures - he reckons OVER 50% of the people who go for medicals atm for emigration are OVER the NZ waist limits (88cm for women)

he also reckons that he now sees as many emigration medicals to do as he does pilot medicals

private center, very calm and quiet so ideal for anyone that hates doctors, like I do !!!

only thing it appears I got 'wrong' was my white coat phobia putting b.pressure up <sigh> so be interesting to see if they ask for GPs referral letter as well after I submit the ITA

recommend - nice and peaceful and on time.

James, did you use this doctor?? I'm interested as this is the one we will probably use. How long did the results take, and is it all in-house or did you have to go elsewhere for xrays etc?

P.S. - if you did use him, is he good? I'm a seriously chronic sufferer of Belonephobia (google it :))

Hi there Junior,
Belonephobia, well I did google it and guess what, it turned out I’m a bit of a sufferer myself:eek:
Yes we did use him; he’s a really nice old boy, he made me chuckle and really put me at ease. He does the medical, including the nasty bit and then you pop down the road to the Spire hospital for X-rays (included in price). The results took about a week and they called us as soon as they had them so that we could collect them instantly and speed them to NZ immigration.
We really cannot recommend this doctor more highly.
Best Wishes:nice1

I'm really weird about this. I'm okay giving shots to animals, and watching and assisting in surgery on animals, but if there's a needle coming near me, I begin to freak out. :laugh

Where did he get this info about waist limit from? There are no references to this on the medical form that the doctor has to complete. My OH is REALLY worried now :uhoh

Yes there is? This is taken from the online medical form 1007

In light weight clothing and stockinged feet:
If BMI > 35 in adults or > 97th percentile for applicants aged 15-19 years of age, or waist circumference of females ≥ 88cm, males ≥ 102cm, arrange and attach fasting lipids and fasting glucose tests.
(Refer to the Handbook for Medical Examiners for further information)

88cm is approximately 35 in which I've heard is a danger zone for women- it's the waist size at which the risk for many diseases increases.

Thanks for the reply Ian. In fact I actually found the medical form online -- it's a guide for panel doctors. Mind you the waist size depends on the proprtions of the person, the waist size of someone who is 5 feet tall will be vastly different to someone 6ft 6ins tall even though they are both perfectly proprtioned. So a blanket measurement seems a little unfair.

102cm is 40 inches, I'm 6ft tall with a waist measurement of 36inches and I feel FAT FAT FAT:(
