We were fortunate enough to sneak in under the 3 year rule and would like to apply for our citizenship in the future. I was wondering if anyone has applied and or obtained their citizenship recently. Would you share your experiences with the forum? Getting RRV was easier than we thought it would be... so maybe our worries about citizenship are also unfounded.

Does it really take 6- 8 months to get it from the time of application? How difficult is it to get if you have traveled outside NZ during the 3 year waiting period?

Thanks in advance,

Wendy

Maybe this website will help answer some of your questions on NZ Citizenship.

I have mine, and to be honest it wasn't complicated at all. No proving of qualifications or providing heaps of paperwork! The worst part for me was getting my Canadian papers together, as I hadn't needed them for my PR application. (I had to provide proof of my Canadian citizenship, which I didn't have as a certificate which they required as mine is from descent.)

The form is quite simple - I was most concerned about the fact that I'd been abroad so much during my qualifying years, but it was obvious that these were for holidays and visits. What they are concerned about is large periods of time where you may have been living elsewhere and NZ wouldn't have been your main residence.

Erm, I can't remember much else about it - other than the ceremony, which was in Auckland Town Hall and presided over by the mayor. Then I went out for drinks and dinner with some friends and my new certificate.

I'm in under the 3 year rule too, but it's on my ToDo list :o (as well as my UK tax return :exit )

I should make it a new year resolution to get it done!
