Does anyone have any recommendatons on furnished places to stay in Welington?
When we arrive we will have an apartment for a couple of weeks but our stuff wont arrive for another 6 weeks.
We have a 2 year old so it will have to have a kitchen & 2 bedrooms & be within 30 mins of Wellington CBD. I just can't seem to sort out what we're going to do, probably because my head is full of so many other things.
I hate not knowing what's going on
Please help :wah

There are heaps of motels in and around Wellington, for short term they are quite adequate, but expensive. Daily family rates around $130 and up, so to settle in for a few days they are OK. Then have a look around for a short term rental?

We stayed a couple of nights in Apollo Lodge Motel, 49 Majoribanks St, tel 04-3851849. Very central but quiet, walking distance to Oriental Bay, Te Papa museum etc, lots of off street parking and some ground floor flats which will suit safety for your 2 yr old (not obvious from website photos). Not the most spick and span spot, but well positioned.

Good luck.

We are going to stay at this place:
http://www.holidayhouses.co.nz/properties/1408.asp
for a couple of weeks when we first arrive. We have 2 five year old boys, so the big grassy area appealed to us. Also got a break on the rates since we were booking for 2 weeks. Hope to have a long term rental lined up by the end of that time!

I do see fully furnished rentals coming up on trademe :

This on is actually coming available around the time you arrive:

It really does help you relax to have things sorted out on the other end. Once I got our Belmont reservation and a rental car lined up I could breathe much more easily.

I would get something booked in advance, looking at your signature you say you're arriving mid Jan which is school holiday time, not always busy but you'll find a few places (especially family units) booked up.

I'd take matters into your own hands and organise something, I did that when OH was happy to sit back and see what happened when we arrived. With 3 kids that to me was a bit too daunting after being on a plane for 24 hours + , managed to book a nice hotel for the first few days :nice1

I'd agree that knowing where you will be for the first 2/3 weeks is helpful but don't commit to a long term rental without personally seeing the property. Pictures on the web can be all too deceiving... eg you don't see the noisy dog next door, the motorway at the bottom of the garden, equally the estate agents '5 min walk to shops' can mean 5 mins to just a small dairy and petrol station etc.

My OH found our rental on his own (he was in NZ) with discussion with me via Skype and me looking at pictures (I was in UK). In hindsight I probably wouldn't have gone with the rental we ended up in if I had seen it in person but he had to make a decision so that was that.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
