Hi,

I have a telephone interview coming up for a nurse lecturing post. Does anyone have any advice or experience of this? I am preparing just now and just wondered if anyone had any idea on the format etc? I have never had a telephone interview before so any advice would be a great help.

First of all, well done getting an interview!

I've only had one; the main thing is the time delay. It does give you time to shuffle your papers around for the right info. you may have scrawled down but in a usual conversation you might , as the questions is being asked, say, 'Ok' or 'right' as it goes along but if you do that, the delay to there and back again, makes it very disjointed.

So I would say just listen while they talk, let the delay happen while you collect your thoughts then answer. I had 4 people listening in to me which was odd, as I wasn't sure who would reply or speak next. You realise how much you normally rely on body language too, to know when to stop or elaborate!
But just try and stay calm, find out exactly when they'll call; for me they rang 3 hours earlier than I was expecting which threw me a bit!

And GOOD LUCK! Do a search as several nurses have had successful interviews which they've posted about.

I would re-iterate what Carey has said - you also have the advantage of having all your documents to hand as well as websites ready for any info they might ask. One tip is to smile - it comes through in your voice. I was smiling, laughing & waving my arms around inthe air during my interview - anyone watching would have had hysterics. Take your time answering and speak slightly slower than normal. Remember they have not got the benefit of seeing you so can't always work out what you are saying from body language if your speech is rushed. Above all enjoy it. I did and got the job.

Good luck :nice1

Hi Guys

Thanks for your advice it really helped. Interview went well. Only problem is that they need someone soon but are interested in me arranging to meet with them when I get over and I have to keep them updated with my progress. So it sounds really promising. I will let you know how I get on.

Thanks again for your help
