Dear Forum,

I have just found this great resource and was hoping I could get some feedback on a question I have.

I am a British national currently living in Germany. I have a BSc(hons) and Masters degree and have been working in the IT field for almost 14 years. My qualifications however are not IT related.

My wife and I are growing increasingly frustrated with both the social and economic situation here in Europe and have begun thinking seriously about moving on. Although I have never been, I have had a dream about moving to New Zealand since I was a kid.

My question is how realistic is the chance of making a successful application for a job in NZ whilst being based in Germany ? I would aim for something in the IT area (project management, networking, technical support). My wife has been working in Human Resources for the last few years and would be keen to look for similar work. We both have German language skills, my wife being fluent.

I would love to hear other people experiences about finding work and any suggestions you might have. Would it be better to make an extended visit and try to apply whilst in the country perhaps ? Are there any great online resources aimed at IT recruitment ?

Hi Curious and welcome to the BEST NZ Forum online!!!

I can't see any reason why you would have problems applying from Germany... you can submit your EOI online at the NZIS site and I am sure there are panel doctors etc over there for medicals etc.

With the points level so low at present I shouldn't think you'd have much problem seeing as you are in IT (which is on the POL) so might be worth getting an EOI in asap - you can always check your points level before submitting the main form - again, all on the NZIS site.

POL = Priority Occupation List
EOI = Expression of Interest
NZIS = New Zealand Immigration Service ( https://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/default.htm )

Wasn't so long ago that I was scratching my head at all these TLA's too (Three Letter Abbreviations!)....

I should probably also have pointed out that, when you visit the NZIS site, go to the info on Skilled Migrant Category (SMC!).

You will see a points calculator - good starting point!
