Bit of a funny question really, but how does one go about doing this? We've just received our ITA (well it's at the post office to be picked up and signed for on Monday) and are looking to cancel it. Not because we aren't going but because...ok long story. When I submitted the EOI back in July we thought my husband would be done with his degree (on the LTSSL) shortly. I applied as the primary applicant (ISSL no LTSSL) claiming points for his degree. With my 115-120 points including him having a level 7 degree we thought it would take a bit for selection. Unfortunately he now won't be done with the degree until March (when we had planned to leave regardless of our status). He's worried about NZIS seeing the later date than claimed on his degree and refusing us entry all together.
What we have decided to do is rather than go through the additional paperwork of proving my work experience (which I do have, that's not the issue), we'll resubmit when he gets his degree. He'll then be the primary applicant with 130 points with a degree on the LTSSL, and possibly a job to follow. Less paperwork to hunt, nearly surefire selection chances, and we'll be on the way there by the time the EOI is submitted so he'll probably have a job offer sometime soon after selection.
Complicated, huh?:roll
Anyhow, should I email NZIS or call them or something to cancel my current application? I can't find a way to do it via the website.
Maybe there is some information on the ITA packet, anyone know?
In addition, can anyone think of any reason to try for the current ITA or not proceed as planned (cancel, reapp)?
Thanks.

Hi Becky,
We did this about two years ago. I got an ITA and then realised I was going to change job track and started doing exercise physiology and stuff so the last thing I wanted was to be working in a biochemistry lab.
There is somewhere on the website I'm sure or there was a contact in the ITA pack. But I just emailed and explained why and they cancelled it no problem.
I will have a look back in old emails and see what I can remember.

Hey Becky,
OH and I have just read your post, discussed it and come up blank (at least as to what we would do in your situation). I think your situation is somewhat unique, and the only real problem is what NZIS could term misleading information on your EOI. Not saying this would be a deal breaker, but I would say tread carefully and think hard before answering or querying. At least you now have close on four months to submit the ITA (and so time to consider your options), but they do request that you contact them if you don't intend going through with the application. That info is in the covering letter of the ITA.
You're right about this being difficult. Perhaps someone else on the forum has some insight or experience?

Ok, just making sure I'm following you here-
He will be done with the degree before the deadline for the ITA to be turned it- it's 4 months from now right?
But the reason that you don't want to is that you already claimed he was done with the degree and they might not like that he wasn't done when you originally did the EOI?
I agree it's just $100 to do another EOI. And you are going to go no matter if you have PR or not (I'm assuming your not shipping much, otherwise this would matter more). And if his area is something that is easy to find a job in (nursing, programmer etc) I think that idea would work just fine. I agree that they don't take kindly to untruths. If it was just a mistake in the numbers you typed, well then maybe they would be ok with that though. Policies do change suddenly, sometimes making it easier for people to get into the country and sometimes making it harder. Right now the economy is looking good, but if it starts to dip more there may be less incentive to allow in migrants. Just be aware that they don't guarantee the rules today will be the rules in 4 months.
I would be prepared to have a degree of skeptism from the employers in NZ if you try to apply for jobs from America with no PR. Having a ticket (ie firm moving date), and a submitted EOI should help, but not as much as being there, I gather. As Americans we get very little time in the country (3 months?) and your ticket will have to show onward passage without PR.
As I recall the packet did have something saying if you decide not to proceed to contact them right away- maybe even a number or email address.
We pushed back out moving for quite a while because of the same exact problem- school is so frustratingly slow!

Just looked back in old emails and I think I phoned the help line to try to change OH as principle applicant but then decided he needed a job first so sent in an emailto cancel EOI. I must have just sent the email to immigration with my ref number.
Skilled Migrant London [skilledmigrantslondon@dol.govt.nz]
I don't know if this emailis still correct address though.
good luck. As things have worked out with us we had a second false start last year but did not get as far as sending EOI in, but hopefully we will be third time lucky soon.

Well he is a programmer with an additional 10 years in telecommunications experience so we aren't worried about the job prospects for him.
Whoops, premature submission there.
Continuing on...
Anyhow, yes he will be done with the degree by the submission date. It was one extra class he needed to take that they popped on him at the last minute...and of course it is only offered once a year. So frustrating.
As Americans you can get a visitor visa of up to 9 months as well, so no issue there either. It's just 3 months without prior preparation.

The EOI was submitted based on information you had at the time, with what sounded like would've been a projected graduation date anyway (you didn't claim that he already had the degree when he didn't, did you? Hmmm, looks like you may have on review of your post...)
Contact NZIS to run this query by them.
You've got the ITA now and if he'll have his degree by the time it's all submitted, it may be fine.
But it is a bit sticky if you claimed points for a degree that wasn't completed yet. If more people did the same, it'd make a much muddier work environment for them!
