Hi , I was wondering if anyone could recommend where to start looking for properties near to Dunedin City .We would be looking at an area away from the university and the students, quiet, scenic, good schools and good for family life. We would be hopefully working at the Hospital and thought it best to stay around the out skirts of the city until we could assess were best to settle. We would be looking for a brick built house to rent ,with good heating ,not alot to ask but Im sure its possible. Anyone settled in Dunedin who could share some thoughts?. Thanks ALL:yes

Hi Britzy

Which hospital will you be based at Dunedin or Wakari (Dunedin if general nurse, probably Wakari if MH based).

We work at Wakari (which is about 10 mins out of town) and live on the peninsular (Company Bay). How old are your kids? There's a really good primary school in both Macandrew Bay and Broad Bay and good bus links into town for older kids to get to and from high school. Google Macandrew Bay for a better idea of peninsular living. We've been here 15 months and initially rented in St Clair (near town but next to the Esplanade), very nice area but rapidly becoming the 'in' place to be at night...quite a few bars and hotels being built so the place is getting a little noisier now and we're glad we moved and wouldn't swop back into town now!!

Company Bay (where we are) is about a 15min drive to work (about 10mins to the hospital in town) so really close really. Other places l'd recommend to rent would be Roslyn, Maori Hill, Belleknowles and some parts of Mornington or Helensburgh, all about a 5min drive into town. But if you want the lifestyle, views, safety, privacy and good schools.....the peninsular. Peninsular areas are The Cove, Macandrew Bay, Broad Bay, Company Bay or Portobello (about 25min drive to town). Waverley and Andersons Bay are both also nice areas which are slightly closer to town but on the outskirts of the peninsular.
