Yes I know sounds dramatic but I still Cant quite fathom out why I've only got very badly bruised legs and not 2 broken ones having been hit by a car today whilst delivering milk In Kaiapoi.
I was standing at the back of the milk truck picking some bottles into a crate when I was aware of a car pulling up behind, the engine note dies but then reved up so i glanced round to see it coming towards me , I managed to get my hand on the bonnet and leapt up , this no doubt saved me from more serious injury, however i was still squashed between truck and car and immeadiately thought "S... this is 2 brokens legs if i'm lucky"
The car reveserd and i was able to slid off the bonnet and drag myself to pavement and soon was surrounded by folks and then fire service ,police and ambulance all of which were fantastic.
One trip to Chch emergency dept and after 3 hours back out in wheelchair and crutches and determined to fine the nearest lottery ticket office as cant believe my luck that I'm able to hobble around this evening.
7 days rest and should be back to work and the hunt for the "duck "

Glad you are OK Ben. You had a very lucky escape. Heres to a fast recovery to your bruises. A tip if you didnt know, rub some arnica cream into your legs to help with the bruising (and the skin isnt broken) if the skin is broken you can get some arnica spray....
Did they get the driver details of who did it?

Cheers guys for all your good wishes, the pain is easing or is that the red wine kicking in!!!
Have been advised that tomorrow morning is when I'll really feel the stiffness/ soreness so have painkillers at the ready and as it was a crushing injury to watch out for any pain , extra swelling redness and foot going cold as this could be the onset of DVT, so been doing my long haul flight exercises to help stave off.
The driver was a lady in her mid 70's, guessing really, who my boss knows well and she was really upset. he has let her know how I am but as to any further action I've no idea.
ACC will pick up all the medical costs and pay me 80% of lost earnings whilst off work .
Off to bed and Clare has flaty refused to let me have a bell :laugh
Once again thanks for all you good wishes it means a lot :cheers

I'm guessing it was an automatic and she thought she was in park and hit the accelerator by accident rather than the brake. Hopefully might find out some more today.
Legs not so bad as feared so able to ice, rest and drink lots or fluids so getting the exercise too :nice1

Best wishes to you my good friend from up here in TA. Got to admit you have had a lucky escape, and as you say it could have been worse. I hate to imagine what would have happened if you had dropped instead of jumped, which can happen in those circumstances.
Here's to a speedy recovery Ben.

Thanks again for all your kind wishes.
Spoke to the police this morning.
She is an 83 year old lady who in her words " stuffed up "
She thought she had put the car in Park but when it started creeping forward she paniced and hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, a common occurance see here http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?p=165372#post165372
The police are going to talk to her family and suggest that she should give up the driving now.Fine by me :yes
It's sad I know, as old folks value the independance that driving gives them but there does come a time. We had a heck of a battle to stop my Mum and she's nearly 90.
