There is NO WAY I'd ever do this! From my office (in the ASB Tower which is right next to Sky Tower) we can see the mad people doing this...:exit

I would love to do it, but I am too much of a scaredy cat... and this is from the woman that did the roller coaster on top of the Stratosphere tower in Vegas!

I'd love to have a go - we saw it advertised before we went to the Skytower earlier this year, but when we got there it hadn't yet been opened :no

Next time.... :D .. I'll come and pick you up Sal :laugh

I had kittens watching that... and I'm usually up for that kinda stuff. Thinks I will stick to shaking Mickeys hand next week. NOT!

It looks like their heads are C&P'd on though :laugh

How do you get any work done Gil???? :D

Oh my goodness, we watched people doing this and I felt sick just looking...when we got there we were like....'yes, can we go to the top deck thing'....and it was closed. We were soooo relieved when we got to the viewing area as we we're both white as sheets and I wouldn't go anywhere near the edge!!! or the glass panels!!!

Well worth a look though, Skytower was fab, got some amazing pictures

My friend from Queenstown did it on Saturday! I feel sick just going up the tower, so there is no way I'd even think about doing it...

We are popping over in Feb 08 for a holiday/recce. I have this on my list of things to do. Although I quite fancy the Sky Jump instead!:D Would like to compare how different the feeling is to that of doing a bungy jump.....

Rach is sensible however, she is staying on terra ferma...with the camcorder!!:laugh

Will let you know how it goes!:yes

Thats one way of clearing a fear of heights, i saw they also do the climb to the very top of the mast as well, as it sways away in the wind!

Being a bit naiive - is it just a walk round the edge or do you jump/abseil down? I could cope with the abseil so could my older son. Something to do if we have a few days in Auckland after we have settled.

The Skywalk is a walk on a metal path suspended around the outside of the tower which doesn't have any hand rails and can be very gusty - you are attached to a safety harness and line so you can't actually fall.

See Skywalk (http://www.skywalk.co.nz/) for details.

You can also do the Skyjump (http://www.skyjump.co.nz/) which I guess is similar to abseil except you go face down.

I think Skywalk (or maybe even skyjump) is going to be on my list of things to do when I get to NZ.

It looks like fun right now (we'll see how I feel when I get a closer look ;) )

I did the SkyJump. It's a rap jump which means your descent speed is controlled. You go forward with the wire attached to your back. It's quite a pleasant feeling - it feels like your gliding downwards. It slows up gently and you step onto the ground at the bottom.

The only hard part is the first step :nice1

If you really want the willies scared out of you :wah, I can highly recommend the Canyon Swing (http://www.canyonswing.co.nz/index.php)in Queenstown

I have a yen to do the Skyjump. Why I don't know since although I don't mind heights looking from a mountain or plane, i don't like 'sheer drops' e.g. cliffs. Maybe it will cure me of that.
Skywalk? I'd love to do it but it just might be too much. At least with the jump the worst part would be the couple of seconds before jumping. maybe I'd better do that first!

Well, my friend did this yesterday (visiting from Oz), she said it was sooooo cool and great fun and she felt perfectly safe.

They let you hang backwards or forwards off the edge... :exit the pics she has are fantastic, wish I could have plucked up the courage to do it with her!

You are securely strapped in, and the only peice of the walkway you actually see through is right at the start, the rest is covered underneath, so you dont see the ground unless you want to.

Having done abseiling in Auckland last year as part of my rigging course, I can understand the rush you would get from it, but yes, it would scare the pants off you.

The instructor on our course did the antennas at the top of the building, hanging on by a rope, he said it was no different from any other rigging job he had done except the view was better and it was a lot higher - but he was an ex-paratrooper :laugh
