But seriously, I'm amazed at how OH's company haven't been able to find .NET peeps, seems the problem is NZ-wide.

As a total aside, that brings back fond memories. In the first programming class in college, the task was first 'Hello World' and then, level 2, 'Hello <name>, how are you today?'
It was astonishing how many times the screens actually showed 'Hello <name>, how are you today?' instead of the student's name. I think the lecturer was ready to throw half of us off the course that day...

Hi NZ Dreamer
We came on visitors visas 3.5 yrs ago having submitted our EOI. OH is a developer (vb/net/sql etc). He found a job and they sorted his visa for him - initially giving him a 1 year contract to secure a working visa and that gave us time to complete our PR.
He's still with that company - they are an international lot with offices in S.Africa/Oz/UK/USA and Asia - and are very used to shipping people in from abroad.
The vacancies they have are for .net programmers - PM me and I can put you in touch with my other half and you can take it from there.

Just an update for anyone following this thread.
My OH's employer has said that he won't be entertaining any CV's from people who aren't in NZ. It seems he's had a few bad experiences of late with offering jobs to people out of the country and has tightened up.
So, if you're a .NET programmer who is in New Zealand and is considering Chch as a place to settle then PM me.

I'm looking for a .net job in Church, have 3 yrs of business app programming (C#, SQL). Could not pm you - is it possible that i don't have these rights yet. This is my first post (signed up a week ago) ? Anyway i would be glad to get some info. Actually there are 2 of us i and my buddy are both planing to move to church.
I have one important question regarding wages. Wage numbers that can be seen in advertisments in internet are they with the tax not yet removed? For example if the wage shown is say 60k does that mean that all i will ever see will be 40200 (with 33% tax) ? I understand that this question may sound odd, but in my country wages are usually presented in other way - like what you see in advertisment is what you will get after taxes were removed...

New Zealand salaries are listed without taxes paid. A salary of $60,000 incurs total income tax of $14,670.

There will also be a very small deduction for accident insurance ACC.

Hi MsLeiners - you need 5 posts before you can PM... :nice1
The first question being asked at hubby's work, after a few let downs from abroad, is "are you in New Zealand?".
I'm afraid they aren't entertaining any more applications from outside NZ unless you can tell them a date in the next few weeks when you can come for a face to face interview.

Nice try to modify my username :) this is actually a first letter from firstname +last name and i am mr rather than ms :). Mikus Sleiners to be exact. Some humor.
Actually moorf i'm planning to move to NZ only in late 2008 or jan/feb of 2009 so i am not trying to het a job just yet. I have to save some money and finish my studies here before i can moove. I signed up to forum to start gathering information, so if you could help that would be nice.
After hours of searching i still can't understand (cuz just about everyone seems to be hiding wages) can a developer of 3 year exp get a wage of 70k at least in chrch? Or it sounds unrealistic? I i'm also on my way to get certified by microsoft soon as i figured this could help to find job and get bigger salary ? Is that true ?

Ooops sorry msleiners! :o
I wouldn't say "at least" $70k for Chch. I would put the salary range between $50 - $70k for a s/ware developer. You will be doing well to get $70k, it's not impossible (far more possible in Wellington/Auckland) but then again, if the shortage of .net developers here continues then you may well be able to name your price soon!
PS - The photo helps! ;)
