We are arriving in Wellington on January 11, from Canada, and right now we're trying to sort out a place to stay for the first several weeks, while we search out a longer-term rental.
I can see from phoning around today, that Welly is booked pretty tight around Jan.-Feb. Especially around the weekend of Feb. 1 - is this because of the Rugby 7s?
Anyways, if anybody here can recommend a decent place that might work for a family of 6, that'd be awesome. It needn't be in the CBD, so long as it was accessible to the CBD by transit.
Thanks,
Kidco

We stayed at the Boulcott Suites in town - part of the Village group. They have townhouses and apartments just off Willis Street. Pricey but well worth it. The townhouse we stayed in had 4 double bedrooms with various bed configerations, washer and dryer, small kitchen and housekeeping once a week. When we searched online they didn't come up anywhere but OH's work booked for us in the end.
Best of luck

I had the problem last year. I had been staying at a managed apartment for two weeks at the end of January while I had some interviews.
I got a job, but the apartments were fully booked for the next week because of the Rugby 7s, and I would have to move out. Nothing else to be found anywhere in the city for that week.
In the end, I put back my start date for a couple of weeks, rented a car and went on a tour of the North Island.
I expect you will be able to find something further out that week, but the city seems pretty busy.

Thanks to all for the replies. We have managed to sort out something for initial accommodation - other than the Rugby 7s weekend, of course. Looks like that weekend will be a good one for a trip into the bush :).
