Now that I'm here I seem to have more questions than during the preparations stage...
Hope someone can help me with this: I have a skype phone (linksys CIT200) that I brought over from the UK, but it must have gotten a dent in the box and is not working anymore (it doesn't charge).
I tried to find a Skype New Zealand website, but there isn't one? Where do you buy your Skype compatible phones? Ideally I want one that I can use without the PC, and what brand/type do people use? And if I had a friend bring one (we've got some friends coming over) from the UK (or Germany) would they work? I'm presuming yes?
Thanks again :)

You could try Dick Smith. I've seen the below on their website although I'm not 100% if this model doesn't need a PC.

The best skype phones don't seem to be for sale in NZ yet, we always have to wait for the latest and greatest!
We just got a Philips 841 which does not need a PC, lets you have multiple handsets and will work with both skype and a regular landline. So now we don't have to deal with separate phones/lines. Ours was purchased in the US and works fine here, can't speak for phones from Europe but I expect they would be fine.

Had a bit of a look around, and am rather shocked at the prices... the one I bought (that broke in a box) in the UK cost me £27, the very same model costs $250 here at Dick Smith's (around £94). How is that possible?
Ah well. I'll see if I can get a friend to buy the Philips one in the US for me and send it on (saw that there on amazon for $99 (US)).
Thanks for the suggestions,
Daniela

oh its possible all right.
I just bought a webcam at Dick smiths for $69, same model as the one I had in Canada which cost $15. and I was quoted a price of $95 to replace the voltage transformer (for small appliances) that I bought for $12.95 in Canada. I always have a wish list on hand for visitors coming down this way from US or Canada, who offer to bring me something (or even if they don't offer, if they are family or close friends, they just get told. :yes )
