As voted in London behind Malmo, Lyon and Toledo in the between 200,001 to 750,000 category with a Gold Award for its new town Flat Bush. Don't really know the selection criteria but must be a pretty good achievement.

Pretty good to know, yes, but I really don't understand what this category thing with the numbers is. Is it population? And why Manukau and not Auckland as a whole? I think we need to know more about the criteria (as you imply) before we can find any real meaning in this? And is a gold award worth less than a platinum award, which is worth less than a kryptonite award, for example?

category is population. Manukau is a city in its own right. award was the "International awards for Liveable Communities".
I don't really need to know much more. Wigan, where I used to be (and will be again next week) doesn't even get a mention.

Sounds like the good news for you is you would have voted for Manukau yourself then! Always good to live somewhere livable...not everyone does!
