Hi Karen

My little boy is 5 1/2 and a telly addict i dare to admit!!!

We have had Sky installed, which a lot of people dont seem to, which gives us the extra choice. He cant watch Nick Jr, Cartoon Network and i think Disney Channel ?

Normal NZ Tv had kids programmes but seem to be first thing in morning and then one or two progs about 5ish.

What sort of programmes does she watch ?

Kyle is thrilled as a lot of the UK favourites ar on over here - Wiggles, Handy Many, Bob the Builder, Doodlebops, Tom and Jerry cartoons, to name a few.

I remember him saying ' mum all my programmes have come to NZ just like me!!'

Hope this helps.

If you can think of any favourites - let me know and can telly you if over here.

SKy can be quite pricey for what you get, we find there isnt the choice you get in the UK but its better than normal NZ tv, at least you have some extra choice........

IMHO for good kids TV Sky is a must in NZ, the terrestrial stuff just isn't on very often or have much choice and you can suddenly find your child watching something very age inappropriate. Our life got soooo much easier once we got My Sky (NZ equivalent of Sky+) installed in the rental. Even though there aren't as many kids channels to choose from there is enough to keep our 6yr old boy happy.

We now have Handy Manny, Lazy Town, Numberjacks & Miss Spider's Sunny Patch on series link so we always have a few episodes to watch. But as mentioned there is The Wiggles, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and many others.

Another option is to get some DVDs of favourite programmes, we did this and it proved really useful until our container arrived with all the Disney DVDs in it.

Tell your 6yr old not to worry! :D

See this link for details Sky Prices and Packages (http://www.sky.co.nz/prices-and-packages.aspx)

Would recommend "My Sky" if you can afford it (one off cost) well worth the extra (very similar to Sky+ in the UK).

And just remember that there is no BBC TV License fee to pay in NZ :nice1

Hi Karen

We pay $81 a month - seems to be one of the best packages so they tell us (but tv i find out here is soooooo boring even with sky) and films are extra. If i recall, it was $99 installation and we paid an extra $10 for a second tv, only drawback is you have to watch same as on main tv - otherwise was well pricey! Miss my Eastenders - it is on out here but 1pm in the afternoon.... There is a UKTV channel too. Seems a lot of people out here feel Sky is a luxury and not a huge amount of people i know especially have it!

We have just the 3 channels and download all our kid's TV from the internet. The latest ones being, lazy town, charlie and lola, something special & Mr Bean.

Cheers

You can get Sky through your Telecom bill, it's $39 for the basic package which we do as it's a bit cheaper than going through Sky itself. Then through Sky we get movie channel for extra (can't remember off hand :uhoh ).

Most people we know have Sky but then the television reception is absolutely terrible where we are :o As others have said most of the time nothing on but OH likes his cooking shows and occasionally there's a run of good movies on.

Hannah Montana is on the Disney Channel
Drake and Josh is on Nickelodeon
Wizards of Waverly Place are on Disney Channel
Mermaids? Do you mean H2O - Just Add Water is on the Disney Channel

Don't know about the sleepover club?
