I am getting good vibes about Tauranga and a couple of phone interviews I had with a company there ...

are there any forumites there or in mt.maunganui/papamoa ?
whats the vibe like ? any areas to avoid ...

We are 6km's from Tauranga and 18km's from the Mount.
Only been here 8 weeks ourselves but so far it seems like an ideal place to live especially if you like nice sandy beaches. The surfing's good here too!
Price wise Mt Maunganui is very expensive because of it's proximity to the best beach in town (Ocean Beach). It is very manicured and pretty, with lovely shops bars and restaurants, and attracts a lot of visitors in the Summer.
Papamoa in comparison is less established, with lots of building going on of new property, although IMHO a lot of the houses are really close together in the subdivisions. Again great beach access, but a lot quieter abd a little more rugged then the Mt.

Suppose it all depends on what you are looking for, and crucially how much money you have at your disposal. Schools also play a big factor too!

really looking forward to getting out there wherever we end up ... don't really know the areas around tauranga as we were only there a short time but seems like a great place to being our NZ adventure ...

schools are not that important as yet as our daughter is only 1

We live in Papamoa and love the vibe. We just moved here from Auckland and we are thrilled to be here. We are in Papamoa West which is not a removed as Papamoa East. People seem to be much more friendly than Auckland.
