My hubbie has just had a job offer, still to negotiate the finer aspects of it all.

Background..

offer for Wellington
position software engineer
he has 13+ yrs experience in C++ [and various other technologies]

My question is this. What salary should he expect for this type of position in Welly? We know how much we want but obviously if he can get more..;) :D

Any salary amount would depend on specialised skills and the industry you will be working in e.g. governement etc.

The industry is telecomms.

skills C++, UML, SQL and a few others but those are the main biggies

Can't give you an answer to expected salary, sure someone else will be able to give you a definitive answer.

If it were me though, I would expect a minumum of NZ$80K and would think you would be selling yourself short if you were to accept less than this.

For example a similar job is on Trademe at the moment with a salary of NZ$80K+ (according to it's wage range)

Would it just be for software engineering or team lead etc as that would obviously be higher (if lucky)?

It's only software engineer, which is a step back for him as his last two jobs have been Senior Software engineer and Department Manager. But the job looks good so he is happy.

We've told the agencies that 80k is the min. he will accept but they don't always listen.....just have to see what they offer I suppose and go from there.

I have major wobblies now......argh.......
