First of all :raebanana :raebanana I got myself a respectable job offer and pending the terms of the contract, I'm there !!
while trying ot remain calm, the nutter side of me is flooding my brain with all the lists of what we have to do ...
a couple of questions for you knowledgeable people over there ...
1) The ITA goes back irregardless, except now it has a job offer in it - by how much does this quicken the process
2) Is there now a need for an interview ?
3) Is there a temporary work permit to be had or does the PR that I hope we'll get come with that ?
4) As regards my wife, how does she stand as regards working since I am the principal applicant ?
Happy Chrimbo everyone ...:yes

Hi there and congratulations,
We're in the same position as you and I think so long as you've had an interview with the company employing you you shouldn't need another. Please don't take that as gospel though as I may be wrong.
I don't know how quick the ITA is, we haven't got that far yet but if you are the priciple applicant your OH will be granted an open work permit for the duration of yours so she can get a job when you get there.
Congrats once again:cheers

AS far as I know...
If you get PR you dont need a work permit...and the same for your wife. You may still need an interview but they will probably do it over the phone like they did with us.
Congrats on job offer

the NZ bureacracy rolls on - looks like my qualification might not get the level i need but as stated above, i have a job offer, contract in my hand even.
so which does nzis value more ? a job or the right level ?
i mean i'm looking at booking flights here ... surely if a company in nz wants to hire me then that should take precedence over the right or wrong level ?
people ?

I don't know if my signature will help with timelines etc but think if you have 140 points or more with job offer then you are, in theory, prioritised. Sure someone will be along to correct me?? Again with this number of points and job offer you don't have to do an interview (I think?)
Well done on getting the job and best of luck :D

Well I think that is going to have to be the job. And I am not just guessing, as the whole way the points selection works favours applicants with job offers, shown by the fact that the points threshold is set much lower if you have an offer of employment. So just because they both account for 50 points does not make them equally valuable to NZIS. Not only that, but those with job offers are fast-tracked through the whole process, and generally don't require interviewing. NZIS figure that you will have been interviewed already anyway by the employer, and the fact that you have landed a possible job is (in their eyes) sufficient proof that you will integrate well enough into NZ. This sounds like good news, but I would still try to evaluate each hurdle, success or setback as unemotionally as possible to help smooth out the rollercoaster effect.

Well done!
We were in a similar situation. We had been invited to apply, but knocked back on qualifications, so we needed a job offer to carry on with our application. I got incredibly lucky and landed what sounds like a brilliant job, so we were all set to submit our ITA - now boosted by oodles of points for a job offer outside Auckland in a skills shortage area.
However, timescales didn't look good. The company wanted me to start work ASAP, PR (even with a job offer) could take up to 3 months, and I didn't want to risk losing the job. We submitted an application for a talent work visa for me (they are an accredited company :-)), along with Work Visa for OH and Student Visa for little'un. NZIS explained that OH could go out on a visitors permit, but would not be able to work on that. 2 weeks later we received the visas, and now I have just submitted the PR application to tick along in the background (submitted before the medical certs run out!).
It is more expensive doing it this way, you pay for the visas and PR, but it means we can get there sooner!
Best of luck, whichever you choose.

thanks jane
i might PM you to find out a few details if thats OK ... we are looking at doing exactly what you are suggesting ... i.e. go out on a temporary work visa of some sort so i can secure the job and then let the PR process continue in the background ...

I've only just logged on today after a Christmas break from the PC....
I applied for a Talent Work Visa - I think it lasts 2 years?? From sending in the application, it took 2.5 weeks to process. :)
