We've just confirmed packing and shipping dates and apparently our container will leave UK on 14th January and arrive in NZ 19th February
Now I have confirmed this (twice now) but thought it was awfully quick am I being overly cautious?? Is there a standard add on a couple of weeks?? We expected it to take 12 weeks so will impact on what we buy etc when we arrive if it's going to take half the time.
Any thoughts/ Can you tell I'm panicking :p :uhoh
Thanks

We've had one container shipped from the UK to Auckland that was supposed to take from the 17th of September to the 11th of November (or something like that), but ended up being almost two weeks late.
We had another container coming from Germany to Auckland, and that took from the 11th of November to the 16th of December and was on time.
So it is possible to be that quick, but it is also possible to be really late...
Okay, not terribly helpful, but our experience :)

Ours was sent at the very end of may and arrived in mid July, (just about 6 weeks).
So yes, it is possible, although there can be delays due to weather etc, or customs clearing at this end can delay a day or two, but if thats what they are telling you and you are having a sole use container, there is no reason to doubt them.

It's actually pretty easy to track your container. First, find out the name of your ship from your documentation or shipper, then take it from there. You can use this webpage (http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/index.html) to track ships, although the data is delayed. If your ship's coming into Welly, then the port has a nifty web page for shipping geeks (http://www.centreportoperations.co.nz/webenq.php?query=ShippingMovements) that you can use to find out when your ship's due in. Auckland and other ports maybe have something similar. I'm planning on taking a photo of "our" ship! :laugh

I think the shipping time you've been quoted is perfectly doable assuming you have sole container usage which will speed up how quickly it leaves the country of origin.
In our case it was really easy to track the ship we'd been told our stuff was on (came groupage not sole container) but.... the container changed ships twice!
There we were watching the ship on the Net and wondering what the heck it was doing going to China and then turning around and heading back towards the UK when it was supposed to be arriving in Auckland in 2 days time! :wah Quite a stressful time given we were trying to co-ordinate unpacking of stuff around house purchase completion and moving out of a rental. I guess the moral of the story is check that your container is coming the whole way on the ship it leaves on (if that makes sense).
I'm waffling now so I'll stop.... :exit

Wow Annelese, that's a great piece of advice. I can only imagine how you felt thinking your possessions were heading back to the UK!

Anneliese thats what happened to us too, our ship sat in the mid pacific for ages, till I got hold of a different admin person and they gave me the correct ship name.... so if your ship isnt in the right place on the tracker, have a wee double check of the name of your boat!

Thanks folks for the advice - I wonder if I'll become as addicted to watching ship on the net as I am to this forum :D
