To all you New Zealanders, Did you watch the football world cup 2006 ?
I was just wondering who you supported when Australia played Italy? Do you get behind the australians or hope for them to lose?? just trying to get an idea of the relationshsip between NZ and AUS.
As you probably know, when Scotland play the english genarally support them, but when england play,, well,, the scots hope for the other team whoever they may be! heh heh

To be honest Craig you'll probably find that there wasn't the allegience that you think would happen, solely because the wonderful world of Footie doesn't really take the fancy of the average Kiwi. So i would imagine they didn't even consider who to support, cos they didn't even know it was happening, and i am serious when i say that.
I flew my St George flags on my car and people actually asked why i flew them as they thought it was something to do with the Red Cross organisation:uhoh
Forget the 31,000 attendence that the Phoenix v Galaxy recently attracted as that was all about Beckham, and not actually the game of Football.

From what I've seen over here, most sports have two teams to support. New Zealand, and anyone playing against Australia.

Thats very sad that a nation refuses to acknowledge the greatest sport in the world, its a shame, and a definate bad point when considering emigration! :uhoh

It does acknowledge it Craig, but not on the same scale as we have known elsewhere in the world. The NZFA face constant battles for recognition.
We have the FIFA U17's Womens World Cup here next year, and the NZFA are trying to recruit Womens Football Officer's to go and promote the tournament/game in School's, Club's, Organisations, etc. Can you imagine the same happening elsewhere where footie is the number one sport, i don't think so. Unfortunately NZ is in the same boat as the USA were in the lead up, and after the 94 World Cup. The game down here needs promoting in the right way, and the way it works currently then it will always be in the shadow's. They were hoping Beckham's visit would regenerate the game, but from what i have seen then that is laughable.
Oh i could go on and on about it as the game is close to my heart and to see how amateurish it is down here hurt's, but maybe one day they will get there and be in the same boat as the Aussies are now, but it needs a passion and dedication from those in power for it to succeed.
