I feel like I've joined the English/US emigration stampede!!!

G'day. are there any Australians moving to NZ? How many cross the ditch in the other direction?

Born and raised in NZ, I have lived in Australia for 30 years but now I want to move back home to be with my family of 3 brothers and two sisters. I'm homesick. The weather here, although great, is monotonous blue with rare rainy days. Bugs and things that bite galore! Yes, I've gone back to NZ for holidays (never enough).:D

My husband doesn't want to move stating there are no opportunities there for him without even looking. He's only 43yrs old same as me. I'm a RN with extensive general nursing, currently working in A & E. I know a job for me is easy to find no worries.

I would just like to hear from other Aussie expats either good or bad stories to tell.

Well, that's not something you hear very often is it! A Kiwi moving from Oz! :D

Welcome to the forum, I'm not an Ozzie (nor a Kiwi), but I hope you can find the answers you're looking for here. I supposed one thing you'll be considering is a drop in pay if you're moving here, I hear they pay far better across the ditch.

What does your hubby do and where are you looking to move back to? Do you think you'd cope with the S.Island climate or would you be looking to move to North?

Questions, questions!

Hi Moorf, my hubby is a kitchen installer of very beautiful craftmanship.

I have lived in the S. Island as a child and found it just perfect. The scenery to me is second to none and better as NZ was nearly undiscovered by the Americans way back then. I hope to move to Tauranga, closer to my brothers and sisters but on the surf beaches which I have become accustomed to. Out of the squash of Auckland.

The pay here in Australia is higher than NZ no doubt but to be expected as Aussie has 20 million people vs 4 mill. But like some other english person said on another thread it can be quite boring living in singlets and shorts year round. When I go out to restaurants and friends houses for dinner you have to find your BEST NEWEST singlet and best shorts and one of your dozens pair of thongs. Too hot for anything much more than this.

I live in Yeppoon QLD and we have to listen out for stinger season as well as croc sightings. Safer than the far north though. Anyway, thanks for the note

Hi there,
My husband and I just moved across from Melbourne. He landed himself a good job in Auckland. I think there are opportunities here as most younger people here seem to have gone to Australia or UK to work, hence plenty of holes to fill.
But what I recently just found out is the cost of living in Auckland is a fair bit higher than in Melbourne! Housing is more expensive, and so are general groceries. Eating out is a real luxury here where in Melbourne, it is really affordable and of very high quality!
I don't know how people here survived as I think it is true the pay is not as much as what you would get paid in Melbourne or Sydney, yet to cost of living is higher!! A few reasons we are here are because the job is interesting and it provides a sea change for us. Also we like the weather here better too. People are really friendly and it is a very safe place to bring up children.
Cheers!

Hi Turtle, thought fruit and veges would of been cheaper. What does your husband do? And how old are your children? Did they find the culture change shocking? I hope to bring over two girls 16yrs and 13yrs teenagers and one 12yr old boy. The opportunity to go outdoors without sunscreen for the majority of the year is very appealing. Australia has an extremely high skin cancer rate compared to NZ. And the rain !!! OMG to actually wear a raincoat again would be heaven. Kiwi's don't obsess over the weather anyway hear from you again. Have a good day

Hi.

Well, by the sounds of your posts, I am very glad that we chose Vic over Qld. Biting bugs and crocs...no thank you very much !

We moved to Melbourne from Whakatane and I have to say that we don't regret it. Not that we didn't like the Bay, we did, very much in fact, but my hubby was offered a job in Oz that he couldn't refuse and the rest, as they say is history.

Everyones home is where their heart is and if yours is in NZ with your family go for it and be happy.

Good luck with your move.

Forgot to mention - you'll definitely need your sunscreen in Tauranga, but no, not all year round. In winter you'll need your thermals...:laugh

If you want to wear a raincoat try Melbourne!! It's rained more here in the last month than it ever did in Whakatane...

G'day Zardell. Melbourne is a great place to eat out ! The amount of foreign cuisine is awesome and of high quality too. Make sure you hit the MCG for any game of footy, cricket or just a concert. Shopping is just the best. What a difference from Whakatane though. It is cheaper to live in Melbourne. Good luck with your move and keep us all posted on the difficulties and joyful moments you may encounter.

LOL - I KNOW !!!!!!

Kwozzie, it was absolutely unbearable - 42 degrees on New Years Eve and into New Years Day. Lord only know how you put up with that constantly in QLD. I just can't imagine ever acclimatising to that.

Isn't it funny...when I was in the UK I used to moan about the grey clouds and the rain and now I could easily moan about the blue skies and the lack of rain.

Never satisfied that's my trouble......:laugh

Press quote (bottom right) in the post you want to quote then remove any wording you DON'T want from that post, but make sure you leave the original posters [quote] marks and the brackets.

Does that make sense???????

Thank you.

That was my Dinah. She was one of my brood bitches. We used to breed boxers in the UK.

Had to leave her back in the UK though...:wah
