Hi all!

My first post... Looking forward to meeting you all!

I got a job offer in Wellington! Engineering consulting in the field of wind energy development. Will be rather appropriate to be living in windy Wellington, I say. My wife and I will be heading over possibly in May, pending immigration progress. With 185 points, I expect my EOI will be expedited so I'm applying for PR straight away, hoping to be issued a PR visa before our preferred departure date, and if not, then going for the work visa.

Our first sight of NZ will be as our plane arrives. That's right, we're doing it sight unseen. :-)

It would be great to hear from anyone else who's taking, or has taken, a similar tactic for immigration. Also would love to meet people in Wellington and/or hear of rent opportunities close to the CBD. My office is in the Old Bank Building and we'd like to find a reasonable rental (<$400pw) within easy walking distance. Oriental Bay looks awesome...but pricy.

I have lots of other questions but will post them in the appropriate categories.

Excited!!

Congrats to you David. Good luck on finding a rental too. Not in Welly so I have no advice. We'd never been to NZ either before we landed here.

If you need any specific advice on Welly, please let me know. As many people here know, I moved here from Seattle to Welly back in July (07). Best move ever... Begin by checking out www.trademe.co.nz for places to live. If you want the contact info for a person renting out a place, just send me the link to the ad(s). Yeah you have to be a trademe member to see the contact info for people.

Good on ya mate for the job offer!

-Cheers,

John

Welcome and congrats on the job offer. We are coming over from the Cincinnati area and will be settling in Tauranga. What part of Montana? I have a niece who lives in Billings. We came down for a visit in '04 and loved it.

Hey all,
A little late responding here - I guess the forum doesn't notify me of your responses. Thanks for the encouragement. Mike - We're from Kalispell area... To say the least, we are not leaving here because we don't like the area. :) John - I may take you up on your offer. If we find nothing before our arrival, my employer has kindly offered to arrange housing for a month, during which time we'll be frequenting Trademe as well as scouting the city.
Regards,
David
