Hi there,

Just through I would say hello before I began posting. I am a trainee teacher (secondary) hubby a mechanical design engineer, two kids 10 and 6. Have been thinking about making the leap for about 5 years now. Went out to NZ three years ago and loved it. When we returned though, OH decided he couldnt make the move, it was too much! I was gutted :(
Anyway, after all this time, NZ has never left his mind and on Boxing Day we had a chat and he said we had to go to give it a try or we'd always regret it! Yahoo!!! :nice1
So, hoping to make the move next summer after I have completed my induction year.
We are planning to go to the Leeds expo in April, then begin the ardious task of filling in paper work after that.
Good luck to everyone making the move :cheers

best of luck with it all - and the paperwork isn't all that bad/much ! NZIS may be slow but they're efficient :D

Hello to The Palmers!

In a similar boat to you guys, we decided to move xmas before last (hubby also a mechanical design engineer). We have two children (10 and 11) with one on the way (could be literally as I'm four days overdue :uhoh ).

Hope it goes well at the expo. We went to the London one last March and it was really helpful to talk to the big engineering companies and the NZIS people.

At the moment we're hoping to move in July/August 08 before our daughter starts secondary here. By pure luck, we found a company (large engineering co) advertising over here through one of OH's engineering magazine's - they were over here recruiting throughout October. OH made a few enquiries, emailed off a CV and a couple of phonecalls later he got a job offer. They've given us until 11 Aug 08 to start the job, but their fairly flexible on that. They are also offering a generous relocation package.

Anyway, sorry to be blabbing on but wanted to let you know what was potentially out there/possibly what to expect and that it will probably be really easy for your husband to get a job offer (which of course fast tracks your NZIS paperwork) as his job is in high demand.

Good luck with everything and feel free to PM me with any questions you might have.

Good Luck with your plans - maybe the hardest part is making the decision to go for it!
