Hi folks,

I am new to the website (haven't had time to introduce myself properly yet!)but did emigrate to NZ for 6 months back in 2005. Things got very difficult and ended up returning home, but have decided to give it another bash now that we are thinking about raising a family and know exactly what to expect!:laugh

I have a couple of questions I hope someone can answer:

1. My husband has dual citizenship and sponsored me that last time we went out there (we were not married at the time). Obviously we came home and my visa expired and I now need to reapply. Is my husband able to sponsor me? I assume it is not a problem because the NZ govt website says he is not allowed to sponsor any other person – and I am the same person.

2. Am I allowed to reapply?

3. My parents wish to come and retire to NZ as well and they only have one other child (who is non-dependant). From what I am aware, I could only sponsor them after being in NZ for 3 years. Is there a way of getting them out faster? I know they can come out for extended stays and I have read the thread talking about visiting Australia, but when my parents come to NZ, I would want it to be full time. I don’t believe they could apply under the work to residency as my dad is already nearly 60 and a truck driver, and my mum is a housewife.

Any advice you could offer would be great!

Hi 2nd timearound,

Welcome to the forum. I'll have a stab at some answers. If I get it wrong, someone is sure to get the real facts.

It shouldn't be a problem. You've been through the process once. You just need to do it all again. :exit

2. Am I allowed to reapply?

Yes

How about your dad getting a work permit? That should last him enough time for you to sponsor him. We have a couple of truckies on the forum Kim and Steve who might be able to give some guidance.

If you received your PR (through family sponsorship), you would be still have residency and (technically) be entitled to live in NZ. Though if your 2 year RRV has expired you would need to reapply for this to be able to enter NZ and your husband would support your application.

So while you do need another application, the process would be a little different and hopefully quicker.

Hi guys and thank you very much for your replies - things stand pretty much as I thought but I am relieved you can confirm what I suspected!

With regards to my father and getting a work permit, he is going to be 60 this year and I believe you have to be 55 or under in order to apply - is this correct?

We can't wait to be going back though - probably go back the middle of next year and hopefully be able to find jobs in Tauranga which is where we lived previously and have lots of family connections! The only drawback is leaving the family in the UK. As you all know it is a very big step!!
