We are a family of 4 wanting to move to NZ. We are still in the information gathering stages and this looks like a great place to get help and advice.
My hubby and I are both domestic energy assessors and had hoped our qualifications might help us to move out to NZ as they are a very green and energy concious country, but alas the need to assess homes for energy efficiency is not compulsory as yet and so there is no demand for us.
My hubby however also has an HGV license and this looks like the route we will be taking as this occupation is on the immediate skills shortage list.
The paper work looks like the most daunting part of the whole process and not something we are looking forward to tackling. Hopefully you guy will be on hand with help for when we get stuck.
Thanks in advance.

hi, may be worth having a look at the energy conservation authority web site, eeca they do all the energy related stuff kind of like the EAC's in the UK. so could be worth a try going down that route also MfE have sustainability jobs re energy particularly household energy as its starting to get on the agenda here.

Sounds like some time in the future when you have made your move to NZ you could create a demand and set yourselves up as consultants. With so many people finding NZ housing cold and inefficient I have no doubt that at least on a small scale (in terms of homeowners retaining your services) you would find huge potential and be providing a very valuable service that will become more and more needed into the future. If you find no other way in to the country you might consider starting this as a business and applying to NZIS for a long-term business visa (LTBV). Part of your plan I am sure would be to have become leaders in this field by the time assessment of homes becomes compulsory, quite apart from the positive contribution your skills would bring to the country and the environment in general.

Hi guys,
Welcome to the forum!
I’d avoid paying agents as you can do everything yourself much much cheaper, and if you get stuck I’m sure you will find the answer you need on this fantastic forum.

Welcome from us too :D
We did all the paperwork ourselves too - time consuming but fairly straightforward. Any questions I had I asked here and got great responses.
Best of luck
