I was wondering what experience other members had had with using migration agents in the UK. We have been in touch with two agents so far and the costs between the two were massive. One was charging £1800+vat and the other was just asking for about £300. Do I need an agent at all to help we with the process or is it possible to go it alone? Any advice would be much appreciated.

I personally think they are a waste of money, we are due a North West forum meet soon - usually in Warrington area, why don't you come along and chat to folk in a similiar situation, it might help.

I suggest doing a search on this forum for threads and posts dealing with migration agents. Most will strongly oppose using them, but if you have significant complications in your own situation, and you are lucky enough to use a competent agent then it may well be beneficial. NZIS are very consistent in their policies and transparent in their communication so I would personally recommend doing it yourself in most cases.

Personally, I would save your money. If you can fill in a form and collate documents you shouldn't have too much difficulty and there's always us lovely folk on the forum ready and willing to help. ;)

At the end of the day, agents cannot get you any more points- they don't have any additional powers with NZIS.

Unless you have a complicated situation I would suggest doing it yourself and saving your money. You will still have to get the information for the agent anyway. We have submitted our EOI ourselves and have got most of the documents for our ITA ready. Just medicals & police checks left. It just takes a bit of organising. If you have complicated visa requirments it may be beneficial but you need to get a reputable one.

We paid for an agent...the £1800+ one it sounds like...and it was the biggest waste of money...if only I had found this forum first!

I would suggest you DIY it!

Hi

We used an Agent 6yrs ago when we decided to emigrate to Australia. It cost us a small fortune, about £4k to be exact and that was goign to be without shipping our stuff over, flights etc. We had been told that this was best thing to do........... Then i fell pregnant with our little one and we lost it all........

This time, we came over on work visa's - the paperwork was a breeze, and if you ring NZ House in London, although the calls are something like £1 a minute, they can help with any concerns. The paperwork was back within days. The EOI and Reisdency applications were done over here by myself, and again, i experienced no problems at all.

I only wish i had done it myself 6yrs ago............, so as the others say, take it from one who has forked out a fortune - try and do yourself!

I am sure that the forum will help with any advice as it has helped me and others in same position.

Hope this helps.

Sharon
