What a great few days. Looks like house has sold ( I know, nothing is certain until we exchange ). The buyers are exchanging on their house next week and their house is being bought by people in rented property. So our buyers are desperate to find somewhere and move.

Got less than the asking price, but still enough for our plans. Of course now the panic has set in as we expected to have at least 4 months before we would be on our way. Now it looks like late-March for completion.

Mad rush now to find shippers. I have today contacted, PSS, White & Co, Crown and Anglo Pacific. Have I missed a good shipper, or is there anyone I should steer clear of ?

To pick up on another thread, I have been in touch with Singapore Airlines and asked about increased allowance for one way emmigration. They replied and stated they would increase the allowance from 20Kg to 25Kg and the hand luggage to 7 kg.

I am so excited that at last things seem to be coming together. Now all we need for for the exchange rate to perk up and I will be in heaven. So with a bit of luck I will be retiring in a couple of months and be on my way to the rest (best) of my life.

In answer to a very busy thread; I am 57 and my good lady is 59.

Good news !!!! Abit sooner than you thought but at least you won't have time to panic .... you'll be too worn out.

Have a great trip.

Hi Dave

I take it from your post that you are coming to NZ to retire. I'd be really interested to hear your story and the process as my parents will shortly be looking at doing the same thing they are 56 and 58.

Probably best to start another thread. I don't think I've seen this subject covered yet - thanks :nice1

Unfortunately no :wah But Dave is 60 and I'm 51. We have had to apply for PR with me as principal applicant as Dave is over the age limit. Dave is still working as a Structural engineer but doesn't want to for much longer. :?

Do you know until the thread with the age question was posted, I read everyone into the same age.???????

What is she going on about I hear you say.

When someone posts something on a thread be it advice or sounding off or whatever, their age matters not.

It is just great that we all can sit and converse in our silent little place about all our dreams. :typing

Dave

Shippers - WE also got quotes from Bishops Move - who turned out cheapest vs PSS and White and Co. Bishops also impressed with their customer service just in dealing with appointments to come and quote etc. The other two didn't

They are coming to start packing in 9 days time (panic) so we'll let you know how it went.

Jon

Oh Numbers

All packing and unpacking
40' Container for two cars and garage stuff(lots)
20' Container for Furniture etc
PSS and White and Co. £7k +ins
Bishops £5.5k +ins

Anyone have better quotes?

Hi Everyone

I started this thread just over a week ago with our good news. Well since then things have moved on in leaps and bounds to the extend that after yesterday I am still feeling dizzy.

Everything is moving well on the house selling front with draft contracts already prepared. Buyers mortgage survey was fine and they look like getting their mortgage offer this week.

Yesterday our buyers visited for a second look around and still love the place. We were looking for a completion date around the end of March, but they hit us with the bombshell that they are moving from their house on 21st February and they hope to be able to complete with us for the same date !!

Panic!! Panic!! Panic!! We have shippers calling on Thursday and Friday of this week to see if we can get everthing in a 20 foot container and to give us quotes. Of course the problem is, by the time we receive a written quote and decide which shipper to use, will the shipper be able to do the packing etc. on 21st February ??!!

We have told the buyers that we will do all we can to accomodate them, but we are now in the hands of the solicitors to complete the deal, but more importantly how soon the shipper can fit us in.

Mad rush now to get rid of the 1001 items we are not taking with us (car boot sales to arrange for the next 2 Sundays!!) as well as deciding which relatives to dump ourselves on while we tie up all the other loose ends.

We can't leave for NZ before 2nd week in April as we have a short break in Rome on 4th April. Now I am worrying that if container does go at the end of February and we don't go to NZ before say 2nd week in April, will we have enough time to find somewhere for the container to deliver to?

My God this is become stressful, so I hope you guys don't mind me boring you with all this. I guess as soon as we get a date for shipping we will have to decide on a date to go to NZ and book the tickets. Looks like we will be hitting the dream a lot sooner that we thought.

Wow Dave - am exhausted just from READING what you have to get through!

To be honest, I think we'd rather have had a mad rush rather than the 4 months we spent waiting around!

All the best, it'll be fine!
