Hi *,

I've been lurking on this forum for a while and I've decided to register and bother you with some questions :) This forum is truly a wealth of information..marvellous...you guys are great and I'm looking forward to helping someone.

I'm a 18yo boy from Italy and I've just started to look around and wonder.
I'm attending the secondary school of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) here in Italy.
I'm planning to go to New Zealand as soon as my school is over (July). I've always wanted to go working abroad, I tried UK last year but I didn't like it that much..:-\
I picked up New Zealand for many reasons... (that you guys surely know =) nature, people, opportunities..etc

I'll apply for the Working Holiday Visa and then I'll get my IRD number.
My plan is to tour around a bit and then find a work and a place to stay.
What if I like the place and want to stay longer than a year ?
Is it difficult to obtain a Work Permit ?
I've got excellent IT skills developed with passion and time. I'm a proficient user of both Linux and Windows, good knowledge of C, C# and Java, I'm also a Web developer and I have a very good knowledge of HTML, PHP, Javascript, CSS, Ajax..I'm experienced in setting up Web server and databases, networking, I can spot an repair an hardware problem quickly and many many other things...unfortunately I haven't got any degree, years-long work experience or certification to show so what would you suggest me ? ... I'll try to get some certification here in Italy or I could attend some kind of IT course in NZ, I don't know. I've been browsing job recruitment sites for weeks and I've seen the IT field is filled with thousands of vacancies in NZ and this is a kind of relief for me. Obviously I'm also considering to do any other work (fruit picking - farming ...) I'll adapt myself :
I'm just wondering what to do ..Do you reckon that my skills will suffice for the IT field in New Zealand ? Is it difficult to get a job you are migrant ?
I'm really looking for advices :)

and what about health insurance ? Which one should I get ?

uhmm I've got tons of questions and this was to be meant an introduction :)
but a need be reassured...imagine...18yo..alone in NZ .. no work...couldn't be farthest from home ...it's gonna be a fantastic adventure !

ghgh, as you may have noticed I would like to stay longer than a year :P

Who read the whole thread is eligible for a big Italian pasta or pizza -- I'll cook !! :D

Sincerely,
Stefano.
