I have noticed there are quite a few people, some nurses wanting to settle in Dunedin.I was wondering where you are looking at settling?.We hope to me in Dunedin later in the year and are still very unsure where to initially settle. We would need to be reasonably near to the hospital, but somewhere on the outskirts, good for schools and family life.We will be bringing around 300k with us ,would this be enough to ensure a small morgage?
Out of interest what has drawn you to Dunedin? Im sure its similar things to us?.:yes Thanks Helen

Depends on what you are looking for. $300k can still get you somewhere without a mortgage

I don't live in Dunedin but spent 5 days there recently looking at neighborhoods within and on the outskirts of the city. It's small enough that it'll be relativley easy to find a home within an easy commute to a hospital.

Use the search feature on this site to find other threads on where to live in Dunedin - just type in "Dunedin", check the box "Show threads" and you'll have access to past recommendations.

Cheers!

Thanks .I think we have decided on Macandrew Bay ,school looks good, only 7 miles into Dunedin (by google) and sounds a good place to settle until we find our feet.Really excited now that things are coming together. Thanks again for all the help, everyones so friendly and the forum is invaluable.

Hi britzy,

I spent two years in Dunedin returning to the UK in April 2007. I lived initially in the Leith Valley which was really nice and you felt as though you were miles away from civilization in reallity however you were less tahn 10 mins from the city centre. The nex house we rented was in Company Bay, (the next bay along from Macandrew) Macandrew has its on little beach and is very pretty there is a very good bus service into town and some mornings a big ole seal takes up residence on the beach. If I can be of any additional help please do not hesitate to get in touch....

:nice1

My wife and I have just got our blue stickers and are looking to fly out in 4-6 weeks to Dunedin as she has been offered a job as a nurse in Dunedin hospital. When we get settled we will be posting a thread on where we are living

Hi Helen.
My wife Mandy has got a job in Dunedin hospital in the emergency department starting Jan 27th. Unfortunately we have not yet sold our house so it does not look like we are going to make the deadline. Mandy is also ccu trained so she may looking in that direction. All the best, Perry.
