From a computer numpty to a whizz-kid in just a few NZ days. I have just successfully installed broadband internet on my brand new snuck-out-of-the-UK laptop (bargain at PC World) all by myself at the first attempt. So no more smelly internet cafes for me ha ha. Now before all you techno nerds wonder what all the fuss is about, computers scare me witless - and I suspect I do the same to them!
I've read on the forum all the deals and specs where one is infinitely better/cheaper/faster than another - but at the moment I don't care. It works. Finito.

So, at the end of our first week we have a car, a phone, a bed (no other furniture yet) an internet connection, nice neighbours on one side and 24 hr partying neighbours on the other :uhoh. We do not have visas, furniture or our dogs.

But the good news is our beloved ginger monsters land tomorrow! Yippee!

Oh, got to go - I'm fillin' up.....

All the furniture is in the container which is due to arrive next week - only without the PR visa (or a work one) I will have to pay GST on the contents. I've spent the whole day running back and forth to the immigration dept. London is handling the PR and Hamilton can't guarantee a time even though they will fasttrack a Work visa. A touch of the UK jobsworth filtering down here. Me? I'm past caring.

We sailed close to the wind on this one too. We were told that if we could give evidence of our PR application it may help. As it was London approved us in principle a few days before it arrived and that was good enough. We just told the shippers that we were approved and they sorted everything out.
