Please can you advise whether or not we require a Visa for our 3 week holiday / check things out trip in March?

I take it you are holding a European passport? Then you won't need a visa to stay for up to three months (6 months on a British passport).

... apologies, I should have been more specific. Yes, we've got British passports so no problems :)
