Hi Simon, I know there's a couple of threads re New Plymouth look in 'Locations' you don't need to go too far back Nov/Dec time if memory serves.
We're in Ilkeston, so not too far away.
Enjoy the forum, it's great, very friendly and VERY informative.
All the best

Hi Simon, we also live in Ilkeston like Carole & Andy, my oh, Karl is also a HGV driver, but we couldn't see how we could apply for the residency visa without being on the long term list?
Any advice and info on how we could do this would be very gratefully received.
Thanks

hiya to both of you
all ive been doing is emailing all the transport companys, then all being well a job offer bingo:raebanana , did my visa as though id had a job offer to see if would pass and yes i did, they even rang me today to sort things out and all i have to do to get things rolling is email or ring them as soon as i get an offer:uhoh :nice1 ive only applied for the full time working visa
Congratulations on passing New Zealand Visa Bureau's Online Skilled Visa Assessment still a long way to go me thinks :(

:( I thought for one glorious minute that you'd found a loop hole in the residency visa!! Yes, we are doing similar, we will be emailing potential employers once we have a date to arrive, hoping that Karl is offered a job before we arrive to apply for a working visa, but if not, we will arrive on a holiday visa and apply once either of us gets work.

Hi to a fellow British trucker. Should you need any info on the game down here then just ask and i'll do my best to point you in the right direction. I hope the research you have done is thorough enough to know that its not like back home unfortunately. Please be aware that you will not get PR from the role unless you find a company who are accredited. There is pressure being made to allow the role to enter the LTSL, but currently they are backing away from allowing this to happen.
Good luck

Hiya Simon H, check out my posts on New Plymouth - we've been here 2 yrs)
I'll PM you (I'll forward a message I sent to someone else who asked about what it's like here). Feel free to forward any questions, but apologies if theres a delay in my answer as i'm rarely around the forum these days (too busy walking the mountain and walking the beach....all of which can be done within half an hour of each other in NP!!!!)
cheers,
hannah

Hi Simon H
If you need any info on truck driving over here, like Kim has said, I will try and point you in the right direction.
It is easier to get employment once you have moved here.

It isn't a good idea to post your email address on a public forum, you may want to remove your email address or it may be picked up by spam robots, if you can't edit it, then ask the admin to remove it.

So all in Simon it comes down to an hourly rate of $17.75 ph, which in respect is the normal rate for a trucker. Now with that said 65hrs a week is really the max you can do under the new rules, but the rules still weigh heavily on the employers side as you are still entitled to do 70, so that would mean that the employer could still call on you for a Saturday/Sunday to get the other 5 off you. They can in fact have you working over 7 days, but they must give you a 24hr period off after that. As for Hookers themselves i don't know much about them, apart from to say they are a major player within the industry. If i was you i would try and negotiate a higher hourly rate if you get an offer, as i am currently driving a 3 tonner and am being paid the same rate as you will be on:D
