Hello all.

I'm new to the community and really considering moving to New Zealand.

Some background info on me :)

I'm 27 and Single.

I'm qualified to Masters Degree Level in IT and have 5-6 years work experience as a Microsoft .Net Software Developer and Architect at present.

I have heard there is a real need for Highly qualified and expereinced IT People in the Country i hope this is true =)

I'm currently favouring Wellington as my preffered destination.

I'm not sure which route to go down as far as moving out there...

I have considered the Working holiday Visa and attemptibng to find a job out there and then get my visa changed to allow me to stay permanentley. Is this viable?

I have also of course thought of being patient and going throught the year long Skilled Workers Visa application process.

As i'm single and have no commitments or ties in the UK getting out there as soon as possible really is appealling but of course i'm concerned by the fact i have no where to live and no work as soon as i get there. This would be true if i went with either approach but i'm sure i'd have more initial funds if i waited to complete the skilled workers application process. I'm just concerend with the risks of both approaches does anyone have any thoughts or advice? =)

Hi David

Can't really advise much but would like to say welcome to the forum. There are plenty of WONDERFUL people on here who I'm sure will offer you great advice, lots in I.T.!

Have you put the feelers out for work in NZ, researched potential companies and sent CV's etc? Several people have had phone interviews and landed jobs that way, and if you have an offer of employment, the whole application is kinda fast tracked. Lots of companies are also more than willing to hold on for a couple of months (or longer) until everything comes through and you can get over.

Anyway, good luck, enjoy the rollercoaster!

I have started to look around but i'm not certain of the best places to actually apply to in terms of getting a response. I'd certainly appreciate being pointed in the right direction regarding job opportunities for a seasoned IT proffesional with and abundance of Microsoft .Net Development experience.

I'd be very keen to take up any employment opportunity prior to arrival as i would certainly feel more secure arriving there and of course it would get me out there sooner. So if anyone could point me to some companies/individuals and/or websites who would consider me it would be great and much appreciated.

Thanks for the welcome =)

Hi Dave,

I might have the solution you're looking for:nice1
The company I work for in Wellington is still looking for .net developers. Have a look at the Working in NZ section on this forum, I posted a vacancy there a while ago and have just given it a bump to the top again. If you're interested send me a PM and we'll go from there.

Note: You need to get your post total up to 5 before you get the PM facility so you need to get posting!:D

I also posted a thread in the Working in NZ area.....

Thanks both that would be great.

I will go take a little look now and post a little then pm you both to find out more.

I have submitted my cv to several websites but this all sounds soooo much more promising. Having a job will make me feel a lot happier and safer about getting out there. I can then start sorting my visa out and being able to look into saving a nice bit of cash to bring with me. Knowing all i need to worry about is getting somewhere to live :-)

You could try contacting some of the bigger IT companies direct. Or try the NZ Expo at Earls court.....lots of jobs on offer there for both Wellington and Auckland.

I have submitted my CV to some it companies such as EDS and also some of the recruiters i found via the wellingtonbusiness website (ithink thats what its called) and also some other websites that seem to cater for possible migrants.

I'm not sure if theres any other sites i could visit that anyone else has used as i said i've spent time looking but maybe i've missed something out :)
