Has anyone used Kiwimove for city-to-city moving on the NI?
Have gathered quotes from Crown, WWMovers (NZ Vanlines), and Kiwimove, and Kiwimove is so much cheaper than the others that we are uncertain what to think...!! :roll Hard not to be a skeptic when so much $$ is involved and also our worldly goods (which have come half way 'round the world just recently...)! If only we could have seen into the future and avoided a move so soon after arriving! :laugh :p
Stories of your experience appreciated....
Cheers,
Christine

Hi Christine.
Don't touch Conroys Removals with a barge pole!!!
They were very good when they were used as the NZ agent for our shipment from UK, so we decided to use them when we moved from NZ to OZ...
Disastrous !!!
Their packing was appalling.
Unknown to us, they used our clothes and soft furnishings as wrapping paper.
To give you an example, we found my £300 leather coat wrapped around a metal garden ornament.
Inexcusable.
They have a wonderful website that advertises both national and international moves, promising a professional service that we certainly didn't receive.
At the end of the day I suppose it all depends on the individuals that carry out the work.
So, as the old saying goes - you pay your money and take your chance.
Good luck with your move,
Julie

If it not too far, you should try do it yourself?
We did with few friends helped us including Moorf and Pip :yes and borrow vans from work. Distances from rental house to our house is 31km each way.

Ok, time to tell the tale, I guess! (There are so many folks in/near Welly that we haven't gotten to visit with yet, and it makes me sad to leave...but....)
I'm actually glad you asked! I've been busting at the seams!
I got a job in Tauranga at Uni of Waikato!! :raebanana
I couldn't tell before now because although I'd been verbally advised that I'd be offered the job before Christmas, I didn't have a contract in hand (which I have as of today). :D
I'm very excited because I've always always always wanted to teach uni rather than secondary school. I've applied for about 9 jobs in Welly (not many, I know) that were everything but a secondary teaching job (some were education related, though)...and all turned me down immediately in spite of my qualifications and degree
So...one weekend away, I sat with my laptop in Starbucks on The Strand in Tauranga and applied for a job with Uni of Waikato, Tauranga, and then a few days later, I flew off to the States for my oldest daughter's uni graduation...while I was away, HR from U of W called my OH and said, "When she gets back we want an interview ASAP!"
Jet lag and all, I interviewed by phone the morning after flying back from America...geeeze...thankfully I did well. I had a nice holiday because I knew pending referee checks, I would be offered the job.
We've already found a lovely rental in Papamoa, and we've met some super nice people there; now we are trying to find my two daughters a smaller/cheaper place in Welly (they are staying in Welly because one is enrolled at Vic U and the other will work as a junior chef somewhere) at the same time that we are arranging getting ourselves moved to Papamoa Beach (whooop whoooop!).
We will be able to move my daughters' stuff ourselves, probably, but the move to BOP, unfortunately, requires the experts.
This has all happened soooo fast!! But I'm very happy and things feel right about this (even though we really wish we didn't have to spend a small fortune to move our stuff to BOP!)
So, there you have it! Sorry to be so long winded about it...can you tell I'm excited?!!!:laugh

Sorry if I'm being daft, but is Conroys and Kiwimove the same company, or a different company you are telling me not to bother checking out?
They sound horrid, regardless. What a terrible business ethic they seem to have!
thanks,
Christine

can I ask what you'll be teaching and what your qualifications are? My husband is considering heading towards becoming a University lecturer.

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE JOB.
Don't bother checking out Conroys is what I was trying to say. I thought that they may be on your list of 'Removal firms to Get Quotes From'

We used Conroys recently for a move and they were fine, took a great deal of care over everything :nice1 Could be just the guys Zardell had that made it in to a bad experience. Before that we used Crown and they were great also.
Congratulations, seems 2008 is going to be a big year for you guys :raebanana

Congrats! We just moved to Papamoa from Auckland and used AA Auckland movers ( I think that was their name). They were fine. Not GREAT but solid.
And welcome to Papamoa. Shoot me a PM if you want to catch up once you are here.

For anyone moving in the Auckland area or from Auckland to somewhere else, we would reccomend the Smooth movers. They were extremely professional and very careful with our stuff had a great friendly attitude and were also a fair bit cheaper than all of the other quotes we had! PM if anyone wants details.
