I'd heard that NZ choc is, well, different, to British choc, and I found out when I had a Flake yesterday. Not good!

So let me ask, which chocolate bars here are worth seeking out? I don't eat much of it, but there are certain times when I NEED a chocolate fix. Say no more :)

Tonight I am test-driving a Cadburys Old Gold Peppermint, and it is rather nice - quite like a Fry's peppermint cream.

Any others?

Thanks,
Jane

I know exactly where you are coming from!!!

I don't mind the cabury stuff that has differnet flavour centes, like the lemon cheesecake one, and the bosenberry shortcake, but can't abide the normal nz dairy milk.

Also try the Whitakkers chocholate, thats quite nice, only other thing I like is the Moro bars.

You'll just ahve to go on a chocholate tasting mission!!!! :clap

If you are really desparate for some GOOD chocolate, you could always order on-line from Hotel Chocolat...they do international delivery, but are quite pricey. There is supposed to be a place in Devonport that does really nice chocolate and do mail order. No idea what it is called or if it is any good.....can you help Tia?

devonportchocolates.co.nz scrummy. Went to find this place as we'd seen them stocked in loads of places on our visit. You can check for local stockists or order online, if you're in NZ.

Just checked, they don't deliver worldwide. Just have to wait until we come back........I'm on a diet anyway......sigh!

Hmmm Devonport chocolates are yummy. Its quite an unassuming shop from the outside but when you go in it smells of chocolate and you can see them all making it out the back. More of a special occassion choccie though as quite pricey. I like the mint logs, which you slice to share and the OH likes the chilli and lime bars.

We've done taste tests on our girly nights when we buy their smaller bars and you have to try them and try to guess what they are and see which you like best, much wine is consumed and life is good ..... :cheers

I find I dislike NZ chocolate more if its got a UK equivalent just because my brain has a very set idea of what a flake should taste like, and if it doesn't taste that way its not happy!

My preference is for galaxy back in the UK (which you can buy in Takapuna for $5 a bar) but here, as a more everyday chocolate, I like 'Nestle Heaven' bars and 'Nestle Aero triple chocolate Temptation' bars.

And after 2 years I have nearly got use to the NZ Cadburys.

Yes http://www.schoc.co.nz/ is fantastic! there's a shop in Welly in Tory st and the original one in Greytown, on the right hand side before the centre as you drive in from Welly. Sorry to you Aucklanders but it beats devonport chocs hands down.:exit

Oh and Moorf when you're here and you're still looking for a round bottomed Wok (yes I have a spooky memory:D ) go to Moore Wilson's as they have them and cheap too!
How long will you be in Welly for?

On my newly found mission to sample all of NZ's chocolate I can report back on:

- Whittakers milk - rather good! reminds me of the Swiss chocolate in M&S

- Arnotts Mint Slices - gorgeous! just like Mint Viscounts, but more crunchy

Also, I tried a Cyclops organic chocolate yoghurt, and this was yummy! Rather a lot in one tub, but it comes with a lid, so could be saved for a 2nd session.

At this rate I am going to end up with a cupboard of part eaten confectionary!!!

Can agree, Arnotts mint slices are yummy too, just like viscount.

My downfall though - pick n mix!!!!!!!!!

I tend to eat Whitakers, but you can get Green and Blacks out here. I think we Brits have quite different chocolate tastes to many other countries, in particular Europe.

There is a Schoc chocolate in Welly and also in Martinborough. It is a life time experience if you can do some choc. tasting with one of the owners. Fantastic chocolate in some very unexpected flavors such as lime- chili. You can try hundreds of kinds of very fine chocolate- if you have the time. Highly recommended!

We opened some whittakers chocolate we had lurking in the cupboard from my mum's visit a couple of months ago....but after a couple of pieces each we decided it was just too sweet for our taste!
I am gonna have to get around to visiting that choc place in Devonport as I am really craving some hotel chocolat stuff tonight :o

In the interests of chocolate testing...

Tonight I have munched some of the Cadbury's Coconut Rough.... OMG it's yummy!!!!

If you don't like bitty choc, then don't bother with it, as it is stuffed with coconut shreds. But tastes fab!

For those that like Whittakers White Chocolate, it might be a good idea to stock up on it as the rumour is that they are stopping production as it cost too much and not enough demand.
