Had our first trip to A & E today, Graham had an incident whilst body boarding...only in New Zealand!!
It involved large wave hitting body board and body board hitting Graham in the jaw....:no
Loads of pain, loads of blood and unable to close mouth properly and a fair amount of swelling...
Arrived at Hastings Hospital and they we're absolutely fantastic, the service we recieved was first class. Graham was in, assessed, x rayed and saw a doctor all on the space of an hour and a half...we had taken books and mp3 players ready for the 8 hour wait!
He had dislocated jaw but had managed to pop back in itself, so pain killers and discomfort for a week:(
Just wanted to give a big shout out to Hastings Hospital, excellent service.:clap

Ooh that sounds painful. There wasn't an 83 year old lady lurking in the waves was there???
Hope the recovery goes well and well done for getting injured in the line of enjoying oneself - much better story for dinner parties in the future. Just think, the first visit could have been for falling over in the line of wine-tasting duty. Not quite as dramatic eh?:nice1

Sorry to hear about Graham's injury :( That's going to be painful for a while.
Did you fill out ACC details whilst there ? If so you should get a letter to hang on to, very handy if you have any trouble in the future with the injury.
With 3 kids I have an ever amounting pile of them :uhoh Just love the A&E and emergency doctors as it's so much easier and quicker than the UK. We were really impressed when we took my daughter to emergency doctors for a small hole in her head, thought we'd get sent to A&E for sure but nope the nurse glued it there and then :nice1

Tonight it is my daughter's turn, at 5pm on sunday evening, my daughter ran into house very distressed and notice blood pouring out back of head. Made mess in the house while trying find towel to stop bleeding before calling for my OH...(was shouting for 5mins before dump baby in pram for safety and ran to bottom of paddocks!! turned out that he got tractor running so he didn't hear me!!!)
New to NZ's medical system, we couldn't face poss 6-8hours at A&E with baby on tow. So rang on-call dr for advice, he just simple told us to come into surgery and did the stitch on her head in the dr surgery :yes much easier and relax for us without any long waiting like A&E in UK. Cost us just $41 for whole treatment and sunday call-out :nice1
She is fine and chatting away now after two hours of unusual silence (we hate it)

That's where I went with my broken leg and I agree 100%. What a fantastic service they offer. I was very impressed with my treatment all the way through, from the week long hospital stay to the out patient follow up appointments. :clap :clap

Ouch! Hope he's feeling less sore now.
I was quite surprised when we had our first (of many) injury at school requiring stitching and we just took the kid to the doctor where it was done there and then.
